Legal and political actions are in full swing following Wednesday’s ruling against the Move Forward Party by the Constitutional Court. Thai politics has revolved around them for too long and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future, at the expense of the fact that there many issues that require serious and immediate attention.

 

Complaints for and against Move Forward have been launched or are to be launched. Meanwhile, political efforts will be put into making Move Forward look a martyr or a demon. Formerly, it was Pheu Thai. Now it is Move Forward.

 

Through all that, bribe-seeking police have been laughing all the way to the bank; pubs have been exploiting loopholes or using improper connections; Thai students have been embarrassed at international contests; exporters, importers and entrepreneurs have been worried more about election results than how to improve their businesses; and narcotic drugs have continued to zigzag their ways into the Thai society.

All true. The Constitutional Court is one of the primary reasons for the regressive nature of Thai politics. The current justics should all be replaced and the court's jurisdiction severely curtailed.

There is spend to much time already on all kind of non issues.. Enter the 21st century accept that laws can change, accept that there is opposition, Look over the land borders where other monarchies have the same lese majesty laws band how they deal with it and how the deal with opposition parties and election result and become a real democracy, instead of a pretending one

The CC isn't the root cause though. It's simply a tool of whoever holds real power (and we can't talk about that either).

Politics is, as always and forever will be, solely about survival.

"Issues" are only properly addressed when they are part of the survival strategy.

Reminds me of the old saying attributed to Cardinal Richelieu to someone saying that such and such was a tragedy, and he replied, 'No, it's a mistake".

 

Whatever the rights and wrongs here, the decision of the authorities is a huge mistake. They will never mollify the people who feel they have been robbed and that their vote has been nullified if they proceed with this vindictive campaign against MF.
