Southern MPs complain about expensive air tickets to coastal provinces

Southern MPs of Bhumjaithai party have been airing their grievances over the high cost of domestic flights to the Andaman coastal provinces, such as Phuket, Krabi, Phang-nga, Satun and Trang, which are popular among both local and foreign tourists.

 

The group held a press conference this morning at parliament to urge authorities concerned to solve problem of high priced air tickets, claiming that it has discouraged many tourists from travelling by air and may impact the tourism industry in the long run.

 

Saritpong Kiewkong, a Bhumjaithai MP for Krabi province, said that it is ridiculous that some air tickets to the southern tourist provinces are more expensive than those for international flights.

I'm always amazed at how poorly informed the general populace is here.

 

Short of the government subsidizing airlines, or demanding that airline lose money, there aren't a lot of options.

 

More people want to fly, than there are cheap seats still available.

These hi-so politicians should pay for their own air fare more often.

This always happens in high season and when many flights are full. Such as now.

There is a solution to this, just avoid traveling to the southern provinces until airfares come down. I always tend to avoid going anywhere where the demand is too high and the prices are too high. To me it's just common sense. If less people traveled there airfares would drop.

Good post, vote with your feet, if the flights suddenly become empty mind-sets will change.

Same with flying to Trat from BKK a 1hr flight near 2,000b o/w plus taxi 600b to KC ferry plus ferry. bkk airways.
