Humanitarian Crisis Unfolds in Northern Gaza as Children Starve to Death

In a distressing revelation, the World Health Organization (WHO) has sounded the alarm on a dire humanitarian situation unfolding in northern Gaza, where children are reportedly dying of starvation. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus shared grim findings following the agency's visits to Al-Awda and Kamal Adwan hospitals over the weekend, marking the first such visits since early October.

The scenes witnessed by WHO officials were nothing short of heartbreaking. Dr. Tedros described "severe levels of malnutrition" among children and reported the tragic deaths of 10 children due to a lack of food. Additionally, he highlighted the acute shortages of fuel, food, and medical supplies, exacerbating an already dire situation. The destruction of hospital buildings further compounds the crisis, leaving already vulnerable communities without critical healthcare infrastructure.

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza reported that at least 15 children had succumbed to malnutrition and dehydration at Kamal Adwan hospital, with another child tragically losing their life at a hospital in the southern city of Rafah. These devastating losses underscore the urgency of the situation and the need for immediate intervention to prevent further loss of life.

The WHO's visit to northern Gaza comes amidst mounting concerns over the region's deteriorating humanitarian situation. Recent reports from the United Nations warned of an impending famine, describing it as "almost inevitable." Across the Gaza Strip, an estimated 576,000 people, constituting one-quarter of the population, are facing catastrophic levels of food insecurity. Shockingly, one in six children under the age of two in the north are suffering from acute malnutrition, further emphasizing the severity of the crisis.

Dr. Tedros expressed dismay over the grim conditions observed during the WHO's visit, particularly highlighting the appalling state of Al-Awda Hospital, where one of the buildings lies in ruins. Despite efforts to gain regular access to the region, the WHO's visits had been sporadic, underscoring the challenges in delivering essential aid to those in need.

The unfolding tragedy in northern Gaza is a stark reminder of the devastating toll of conflict and instability on civilian populations. The Israeli military's large-scale air and ground campaign targeting Hamas militants has resulted in widespread destruction and displacement, further exacerbating the region's humanitarian crisis. With over 30,500 people, predominantly women and children, killed since the onset of the conflict, the need for urgent international action to address the root causes of the crisis has never been more pressing.

As humanitarian organizations continue to grapple with the immense challenges of delivering aid in a conflict-ridden region, the international community must step up its efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza. Immediate action is needed to ensure access to essential food, water, and medical supplies for those most in need and to prevent further loss of innocent lives in this unfolding tragedy.

What video and eyewitness accounts tell us about Gazans killed around aid convoy

Lying IDF, sets starving people up, so they can kill them, the most morel army in the world, load of cobblers.

Dr Mohamed Salha, interim hospital manager at al-Awda hospital, where many of the dead and injured were taken, told the BBC: "Al-Awda hospital received around 176 injured people...142 of these cases are bullet injuries and the rest are from the stampede and broken limbs in the upper and lower body parts."

Just imagine Russia was doing this and what are leaders and press would be saying. Just imagine because they aren't doing that but Israel is. For many folks, this is a real mask off moment where the hollow words of democracy and justice and civilisation stick in the mouths of those uttering them so much so that those they would have us believe them no longer do.

Everything’s rosey now, they are being bombed with American ration packs, it’s amazing what losing a few votes will do. 🥲🥲🥲

I thought it was a very good thing when they did that, but when I found out it was only 40,000 or so ration packs it has made me wonder if it is some sort of sick joke. There are 2 million + starving people in Gaza, and they think 40,000 meals that last ONE day, will win Biden applause. The situation gets worse by the day.

Every time Russia blew up a residential building with some Ukrainian deaths it was paraded on the world media as an example of how terrible Russia is and how we should throw a few billion more $ at Ukraine to repel the genocidal Russians, but when the israelis do it to hundreds of residential buildings and kill thousands of civilians, there is only silence from America, Britain and Europe.

History will judge the guilty and those that colluded.
