watch Suthichai Yoon's comment on Sunday evening's violent clashes between police and protestors in front of Gen Prem Tinsulanonda's residence and the ensuing political implications. Is there a link between Thaksin's offensive and the street clashes?

Of course there is.

It is common knowledge that most of the upcountry protesters are being paid. Same as every other time they protest. How do you think they can afford to hang out in the city when many could not even afford the trip down to Bangkok from Kalasin/Buriram/etc? You will note that virtually all are from TRT strongholds or occupations such as taxi drivers (also from TRT strongholds, but also directly supported via TRT in the past using govt money).

Exactly the same as the mob in Jatujact, and at the airport before it opened. I talked to both groups; very sad to see the groups so well hoodwinked. THAT is why poor and stupid people shouldn't be allowed to vote. And anyone that isn't a staunch right wing conservative. Stephen Colbert for President.

The not too coincidental timing of law cases, the referendum and pending election are all D-Day for the Shinawatra family; he has had many chances to back down in the past and not taken them; why would he start backing down now???

Consider this to be the final table, last 2 competitors, and we are seeing the turn already, and only have the river to go. Taksin could have pulled out and kept some of his chips at the preflop (initial election fiasco) or the flop (coup) but he didn't; instead he moved up the stakes and has bet his limit. On the turn, has been the handling of the law cases, and how he has composed himself post coup.

There will be only one victor here, it is going to get uglier before it gets better. The only easy hope of fixing it is to tie the TRT mechanism up via currency control and anti corruption charges; to some degree the asset freezes have been assisting here but guys like Newin presumably have a fair bit of cash and influence still to lean on people as required. The mob is his next bet; however he has been struggling to mobilise the numbers he had and he has lost the support of some of the godfathers who supported him before. In fact, rats off a sinking ship would seem to be apt.

But of course, I could be wrong.
