We also have the name of the company he represents, I looked it up after one of his early calls.

I didn't get that far before cutting off...  What's the company name ?

Can't remember, it was many months ago, as I said, but seem to recall that it was in the Sathorn/Chongnonsi area.  Ask him next time he calls, he had no issue telling me the company name.

They have our numbers (probably that's all because he didn't know my name, he had to ask me for that) and we have their numbers, at least we have the number of the one you're talking about.

He knew my name...

No big deal, you know his (phone) name and number (and his employer's name, if you ask him).

I can't recall if I blocked his number from previous calls...   But using the same number, especially if registered in his name (or his companies name) is a potentially risky game for him

(especially if not work permitted and I expect that such sh!££y work is carried out 'under the work permit radar' - though I could be wrong on that).

He'll have no WP for financial services.

Take a wild stab in the dark at what number I’ll get called from next ?

Pretty much all cold callers rotate their numbers, often routing a number from overseas too.

They’re already ahead of the game when it comes to avoiding getting blocked.

Arrange to meet him somewhere miles out of the way and dont turn up, he wont call again.

If I was the type to seek 'revenge' my response would be significantly more Machiavellian than that - I have rather high limits.

That said - one expat women wasted my Wife's time once and then started getting antsy and aggressive with her.

She was very lucky she stopped at that point as I'd reached my limit - I'd already lined up the response & it was going to cost her her future in Thailand.

In this case, its just a mild irritation and easy to ignore - I'm just interested how many guys this character is cold calling - it seems that he's been able to get access to the contacts of a lot of people.

I very much doubt his name is true... although it could be found out if there is a guy by that name within Thailand.

I wonder how common the name is...

I didn't think my (real) name was that common - it turns out that there are (were) at least 3 people with my full name in Thailand... (all registered at Samitivej Hospital !!!) - that coincidence surprised me !!!..

Yes, I get this bloke also, and I know where he is working from. I politely tell him to eff off and remove my details from the system.

Or don't bother answering unknown numbers.

I work for the lottery office, we've tried to contact you several times.

What?  The lottery office doesn't call anyone who would have any interest in taking their calls.   Ticket purchaser's details are not registered until a claim is made, by the purchaser.

If he's working for an advisory company/broker here selling the products of legitimate providers and receiving commission from those providers he probably will be using his real name.    If he's just scamming people he won't be.

The usual cold calls I receive are from Thai folk & its immediately obvious what’s going on, I drop the call before they get to their pitch…

The irritating part if that is the timing of the call sometime at 8am etc.

me for I’m not I interested - but the disturbance is annoying such that I’m

100% against what’s he’s possibly offering before his finished his intro.

Anyone who else ???  His voice is very recognizable.

Block them. Check their number on Google, then block them.

Thankfully, no. I get the cold calls and usually hit them with "can you speak English" and they hang up for me.

Thai numbers go round and round. If you let your sim go for a certain amount of time--say, go back home for a year--pretty sure it ends up back in circulation after a time. So, it could be some old acquaintance of Somchai Bloggs or daeng or kiaw or dam or porn or whoever, who had your number before just checking up on them/you.

I see that there's alot of people here that are into scambaiting. I highly suggest you guys take a look at this youtube channel.

The guy keep calling scammers and just talk over them all the time and they literally lose their sh*t everytime.

The way he make them say ''listen to me'' 10 times under 5 minutes is pure art.

Literally everyone is hanmered with cold calls in UAE - a lot of them are fraud which is a huge problem.  It's crazy.

If I'm busy I just laugh and hang up.

If I'm feeling playful I'll say "Oh great, thanks for calling.. wait one minute.."

Then put the phone down, leave on speaker, and see how long they wait while I get on with doing whatever.

I get calls from a Thai call centre gang who pretend to be cops. They have my full name and address and ID card number as well as phone number. They pretend to be cops and have background noise designed to sound like a police station. I listened to a lot of the spiel the first time. They said I had done an online bank transfer to a certain Thai name on a certain date and they were investigating that person for money laundering and drug dealing. Asked several times, if I knew him and had transferred money to him. I got suspicious and asked him for the “cop’s” name and rank and the name and address of the police station or office he was calling from, so I could look up the fixed line number and call him bank. He started talking in a very threatening way then, so I hung up realizing it must be a scam.

Another one called from a different number a bit later but I hung up after hearing him start his spiel. Then I got about 30 more calls from unknown numbers in quick succession which I blocked without answering. The funny thing is that they always use 06 mobile numbers which I block but they come back with more 06 numbers. 5 months later they still call from time to time. The missus picked up an 06 number on my phone a couple of weeks ago and it was the same sort of voice trying to pronounce my full name. So I told her to hang up. Then another 06 number followed as usual.

Apparently the scam is to scare people into handing over a bank statement to prove they didn’t transfer money to Somchai on that date. Then there will be a loud slurping noise as they suck all the money out of the account.

i found out that Thai cops never call people like that as part of an investigation. They either send a witness summons notice by mail or show up at your house, if they have good evidence. I guess they must have bought a job lot of 06 numbers. I think it is TRUE. Perhaps I miss some genuine calls by not answering them but that’s too bad. They can send a message.

The call centre is probably just over the border in Cambodia or Burma within reach of Thai mobile signals. They are quite scary and obviously bought a large batch of personal data from a corrupt official at a bank or government office. I can understand why Thais fall for it and they are very persistent. It is probably a lucrative business with protection from genuine Thai cops.

I also get calls from a well spoken Thai woman in English saying she is with Amex and wants to sell me personal accident insurance. Very annoying if Amex has sold my personal data which I believe is the case as they more or less admitted that it once when I called to complain. The calls stopped for a bit but started again and always the same woman. I am polite with her as she is polite. Just tell her I am not interested.
