According to the ThaiRath video the driver had locked all the doors and the Farang claims he was just trying to exit the taxi through the driver's door. I think that looks very plausible looking at the video. It looks like the driver may be actually trying to block his exit.

Right!

So you think it's plausible for someone in the BACK SEAT to crawl over the driver because he wanted to exit the car while in traffic?

The taxi driver refused to let go of his car door because he feared being carjacked.

The deterioration of Phuket as a quality tourist destination ...... if you pray for rain ... then you deal with the mud.

If they could only lose their tunnel vision mindset ‘quantity = money’ an impossibility me thinks……definitely bogged down in the mud…..

Yet another stupid farang setting the level and class the Thai´s would use to see us as. Whenever is this going to end, instead of just escalating?

Looks to me he was in desperate need of a smoke. I don't believe he was attacking the driver intending to cause him harm, he was not whacking him on the head, he just wanted out. The driver was clearly not trying to escape as the Thaiger article claimed.

Facts from the ThaiRath video:

The driver told the Farang no smoking.

They drove on for awhile and then the Farang said "please, please" but the driver claimed he didn't know what the please please was for.

The Farang attempted to exit the car but found the doors locked at a red light.

The driver admits the doors were all locked.

The Farang climbed over the seat to exit the driver's door.

The driver of the car that was bumped into (the large Thai guy interviewed) said the Farang appeared to be a little drunk.

Don't these Buffalo heads in Phuket know after last month, anything not legal, or claimed to be, is going to get nationwide full metal, publicity?!

Most of the official thai taxi drivers or tuk tuk drivers are just a bunch of cheats and we all know how they refuse to turn the meter ON and other of their tricks.

But that is no reason for farangs to misbehave and be abusive. Many westerners in Thailand have an attitude and think themselves to be in conquered colonised territory. Such people should be plainly deported on the spot and banned from the kingdom on periods of time that depend on the level of their offense.

This is to do with smoking in the vehicle and not fares and meters

Whats the other side of the story? I was locked in the back of a cab in vietnam while the driver tried to extort me. The only way out is through the front in that situation. But who knows. Without any context at all we just have a elderly man sitting on top of a cabbie for some reason

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Several Thai media outlets reported that the man was a German national but some stated he was from Austria.

This debate has been going on for nearly a century.

For crying out loud, what gets into these people!

Apart from walking around with ridiculous facial hair that makes him look like an extra from an Asterix the Gaul movie, he arrives in Thailand, gets off the airplane and promptly picks a fight!

Possibly in-flight cocktails ..... ?

And should be promptly put back onto one heading for  from whence he came!

come on.. easy to see the Thai man was attempting to flee the scene of the accident and the foreigner grabbed him to prevent his running away and leaving the foreigner in the taxi.

All this bad news about foreigners is making it too easy to accuse wrongdoing even if trying to help. Haha....

What do they put in the drinking water in Phuket, is the public water system connected to the glue factory or something.

Hadn't even touched Phuket natural resources yet straight off the plane 🤡

Is that a  "Could have been worse......in another report a man had an arm  hacked  off  for objecting to smoking ! " detraction from the ridiculous behavior or a very sad attempt to attract further attention to another news item?

And  people still refer to trash editions of printed  wastepaper .

It's The Thaiger. Better get used to it as the overwhelming news source for AN. We are offered their trash several times a day.

Can't see the problem ... the German was just trying to get out of the cab and the driver was stopping him. No punches thrown or any other,  what I would call, physical violence, can be seen
