Community Heartbroken Man Survives Suicide Attempt After Jumping into Chao Phraya River
Picture courtesy of Komchadluek. A 46-year-old Thai man made a dramatic decision to end his life by jumping into the Chao Phraya River after a failed attempt to reconcile with his long-time partner. The man, identified only as Mr. Peeraphon, survived the ordeal after panicking mid-attempt and finally climbing out of the river. The incident occurred near a Chinese shrine on the banks of the river in Pak Kret district, Nonthaburi. Officers from Pak Kret Police Station and rescue volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation responded swiftly to the scene after being alerted to a possible suicide. At the riverbank, authorities discovered a black backpack, a pair of sandals, socks and a bottle of drinking water. Inside the bag, police found a knife, a national ID card, personal documents and a suicide note expressing heartbreak and love for a woman named “Khiew,” his Laotian partner of 22 years. According to Mr. Peeraphon, speaking through tears, he was devastated after discovering his partner had been messaging another Laotian man. Feeling abandoned and worthless, especially after enduring personal and professional hardships, he saw no other option but to end his life. “I worked as a security guard, 14 days straight, sleep-deprived, only to be cheated out of my wages,” he said. “After I lost that job, I got another at a shopping mall in Srisamarn but was dismissed again without doing anything wrong. My partner left me with two children and the burden of rent at 6,500 baht a month. I know I’ve made mistakes, including once hitting her because I had linked her phone accounts and read her messages.” Six months after their breakup, Mr. Peeraphon tracked down his former partner in a desperate bid to win her back. “When I called, she’d blocked me on Facebook. Then I saw her post a picture with a new man, sending heart emojis. I felt like my heart had shattered.” He arrived at the riverside shrine just before noon, bringing water and liquor concealed in an energy drink bottle. A local man, Mr. Aon, noticed him crying and approached to ask what was wrong. After hearing of the heartbreak, Mr. Peeraphon attempted to cut himself with a knife, but Mr. Aon managed to stop him. Moments later, the man jumped into the river instead. While rescue efforts initially failed to locate him, Mr. Peeraphon eventually emerged from the water unharmed. He admitted he had second thoughts after swallowing water and becoming entangled in water hyacinths. “I was scared. I blacked out in the water. When I woke up and saw the sky above me, I clutched the plants and pulled myself up,” he recalled. Authorities took Mr. Peeraphon to Pak Kret Police Station to calm down before arranging for him to return to his rented accommodation in Srisamarn. Despite his heartbreak, he expressed a deep wish for reconciliation, though he admitted that the relationship may be beyond repair. The suicide note, contained messages to his partner and children, urging his ex to move on with her new life and wishing happiness for their children. Police are continuing to monitor Mr. Peeraphon’s wellbeing and have reminded the public to seek help when facing emotional distress. Accident Drunk Driver Crashes into Motorbikes in Phetchabun

A 21-year-old man was killed and two others seriously injured after a heavily intoxicated pickup truck driver collided with two motorcycles on a rural road in Wang Pong district, Phetchabun province. The driver attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by police after crashing into a power pole. The fatal crash occurred on the evening of 26 June on the Wang Pong–Nong Khanak Road, near the S-curve in Ban Wang Kradat Ngoen, Village No. 13, Tha Dong Subdistrict. Officers from Wang Pong Police Station, along with rescue personnel from Wang Pong Ruamjai Foundation, responded to the emergency call. At the scene, two Honda Wave motorcycles bearing Phetchabun registration plates were found severely damaged. One rider, Mr. Pawarit aged 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. He suffered catastrophic injuries, including his abdomen was torn open and a severed left foot. Two other individuals sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Approximately one kilometre from the scene, a Nissan pickup truck with Sisaket registration was discovered after crashing into a roadside power pole. The driver had attempted to flee following the collision but was unable to continue after the second crash rendered the vehicle inoperable. Police from Wang Pong Station arrested the driver and conducted a breathalyser test, which confirmed a blood alcohol level well above the legal limit. He now faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence, reckless driving causing death and causing serious injury. Footage taken by concerned citizens captured the suspect’s attempted escape. In one video, the driver can be seen struggling to dislodge a motorcycle stuck beneath the front of his vehicle, rocking the car back and forth several times before finally speeding off. Another video shows the pickup losing control and crashing into the power pole, effectively ending the pursuit. Police continue to gather evidence and have praised the quick actions of bystanders who helped document the incident and ensure the suspect was brought to justice. Transport Chiang Mai Airport Tightens Security Measures to Prevent Repeat of Phuket Bomb Scare

Chiang Mai International Airport has stepped up its security protocols in the wake of a recent bomb scare at Phuket International Airport, aiming to boost passenger confidence and ensure maximum safety for all travellers. Air Vice Marshal Ronakorn Chalermsanyakorn, Director of Chiang Mai Airport, announced on 27 June, that following the discovery of a device concealed in a motorbike at Phuket Airport, enhanced security measures were implemented immediately at Chiang Mai Airport. The airport has increased the frequency of routine patrols from five to seven rounds per day. Inspections for suspicious or unattended items within passenger terminals and public areas have also been intensified, now conducted 14 times daily, up from the previous 10. Security personnel are applying stricter screening procedures for individuals, vehicles and items entering or exiting restricted and controlled zones of the airport. In addition, public announcements have been made urging owners of motorbikes abandoned for extended periods within airport grounds to retrieve their vehicles. Owners are required to present both their motorbike registration documents and national ID cards to the airport’s security department during official hours to reclaim their vehicles. This measure aims to maintain order and eliminate potential threats to public safety. Chiang Mai Airport expressed its gratitude to passengers and the public for their cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to continuously improving safety standards. LTR Visa is Now available for Long Term Residency
I received my LTR P Visa in January 2023. At the time, I was considering relocating to Thailand and, admittedly, may have been a bit bored during COVID. On my application, I used a friend’s address in Thailand (he has since moved). I typically visit Thailand three to four times a year, usually for a week or two each time. Does anyone foresee any issues with this arrangement? I assume that at the five-year mark, I’ll need to provide a new address along with updated proof of insurance and income.
