Police investigating the murder of former Conservative minister Ann Widdecombe are examining the movements of a suspect after reports that a man was seen leaving a South Yorkshire address linked to him carrying what appeared to be a wooden stick before driving away. The development came as detectives continued forensic searches at a property in Rotherham following the arrest of a 28-year-old white British man on suspicion of murder. CCTV Footage Becomes New Focus According to reports, CCTV footage reviewed by The Telegraph appears to show a man leaving an address in Byrley Road, Kimberworth Park, at around 7am on Wednesday – the day Miss Widdecombe is believed to have been attacked. The man was reportedly seen placing what witnesses described as "some kind of wooden stick" into the passenger side of a red car before driving away. Police have not publicly commented on the reported footage. Forensic Teams Descend On Rotherham A significant police operation unfolded at the South Yorkshire property over the weekend. Neighbours said officers arrived shortly before England's World Cup match on Saturday evening, with multiple police vehicles attending the scene before a red car was removed from the driveway in the early hours of Sunday. Forensic officers in protective suits continued examining the terraced house while uniformed officers guarded the scene. Neighbours Describe Quiet Street Residents said the street had rarely seen police activity and expressed shock at the investigation. One neighbour said the man had been living alone after other family members moved out and was largely unknown to those living nearby. Another resident described the police presence as unprecedented, saying nothing similar had happened during more than a decade on the street. Police Urge Public Not To Speculate Miss Widdecombe, 78, was found dead at her home in Haytor on Dartmoor on Thursday after emergency services were called to the property. Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the discovery that she had sustained serious injuries.
