A yacht recently refurbished unexpectedly caught fire during a test run off Pattaya's Na Jomtien beach. However, the boat’s three crew members were rescued without injury, confirmed Amarin TV on the evening of April 26.

Upon noticing the growing fire on the yacht named Coco, with thick black smoke visible across the Pattaya coast, local authorities including the Sattahip Marine Police, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, and Pattaya Harbour Office were alerted at 3 p.m.

Despite rescue boats immediately scurrying to douse the flames, they were unable to extinguish the fire within half an hour. Nevertheless, they successfully evacuated all three crew members aboard the burning yacht. The vessel, registered as 492300301, is 13.25 metres long and 4.10 metres wide.

According to the yacht's captain, the fire broke out on their boat's test run following its repair. Flames sprung from the exhaust pipe while it was sailing off Na Jomtien beach. Although the crew attempted to control the fire, it quickly spread across the yacht, prompting an urgent call for help.

In response to the incident, the Pattaya Harbour Office has banned the yacht's use and summoned its owner for an inquiry.

Video of incident posted yesterday. Have asked for my thread to be closed.

Local media stated about 20 million baht, new, price tag on this boat.

At least there was plenty of water for firefighting.

Insurance comes to mind.

Why?

Hardly likely to be arson as the crew tried to extinguish the fire.

Impressive that the jet ski rider was using the jet ski power water to try and help.

Please share your knowledge that makes you think that?

I think you will find that arson of “20 million baht” yachts’ at sea is not common. A review of the owner/boat history, were there details of non-payments, many debts, poor maintenance records, boat up for sale for some time, information from other owner/local companies, would form some part of any investigation.

It is reported by the captain that he and the 2 technicians took the boat out to test after repairs were completed. When at sea it was noticed flames were coming from the exhaust pipe from the engine.

Insurance is unlikely to pay if it is suspected there was negligence/defective workmanship, evidence of arson, suspected fraud or false/fake statements made to authorities.

Did they just set off out to sea with no pre-engine test/check ?

They were doing sea trials after repairs.

That is the test. It failed. So did whatever fire suppression system the boat was equipped with.  Larger vessels use hifog systems, some with additives to knock the fire down faster. A small vessel like this one might have had CO2.
