Can anyone explain this

I occasionaly keep tabs on my glucose level ( I do not think I have diabetes but at my age I like to monitor).

This morning on waking up  I tested with my meter - result 6. (fasting)

I had one piece of toast with raspberry jam.

2 hours later I did another glucose test - result 4.9

I would have expected it to have risen but it went down.

The fasting glucose test may be all over the shop. The true guide is the HbA1c test, which measures how much glucose is attached to the red blood cells.

Raspberry jam is not straight glucose. It will be a combination of sucrose and fructose. Sucrose is a compound, equal parts glucose and fructose.

Search "Reactive hypoglycemia".

Sounds like that is not "self administered"

It's only 1-2 hundred baht at any pathology lab.

It's not done every day, most doctors are happy with a check every year unless the patient is diabetic.

No idea and no idea what hba1c is - as I said I only monitor occasionaly just to keep an eye on it

perhaps you need to recalibrate your monitor.

You wrote 4.9  not know what A1 C?

Today some say if under 7.0 you are OK, then some standard is below 6.0?

Of course no expert but from my little research and experience if home unit sticking yourself after a hour or two after eating it doesnt indicate A1C number.

Whatever the time I stick before I eat after 1.5-2.0 Hours everyone is different.

Obtaining a A1C number is based on eating habits of 90 days?  That is my understanding. As noted they are pretty cheap hete in Thailand.

stop eating bread

stop eating breakfast

learn to fast

you might not need medication after you master it

or stay injecting for life

every T2D is insulin resistant

injecting more insulin is like putting more air in your tires where they are full

That was my thought too. Stimulate an insulin response and the expected reaction is ..............................?

IMO the OP is testing too often, and going to find problems where none exist.

I only tested twice since I got my meter a month ago.

It is possible that your body senses the glucose entering the stomach and starts secreting insulin in response to take glucose out of the bloodstream. Alternatively, there could be variations stemming from the test itself.

Throw away your meters and kits and enjoy life.  You are looking for problems.

I find if you don't look for potential problems they have a habit of surprising you when they arrive as the surely wil as you get older.

I hadn't tested since I returned in September!!!

I test my blood sugar every Monday morning before I drink or eat anything using my Accu Check Active Glucometer. I bought it on Lazada for 1,130 thb last May plus 50 extra test strips and 50  extra lancets for  487 thb.

Only during this month, April 2024 has it gone past 7.0 since I started testing in June last year. That has given me an average of 7.7 and it is going back down again.

Whilst it is not perfect, it does give me a fair idea of my blood sugar glucose and it only takes 2 or 3 minutes at home once a week.

Do not seek medical advice from strangers and ignorant but pay a visit to a doctor or pharmacist clerk to check out first your electronic meter if it works properly and second to measure your body glucose level using another electronic meter. (it may need electronic adjustment or batteries replacement)

Something may work excellent for "me" it may be fatal for "you".

Electronic engineers and programmers are specialists for our computer and the doctor is specialist for our health status and it doesnt have to do if you or anyone have middle or serious health problem so do not stick in adjectives but in nouns problem....

Friendly do not ask to solve "online" any medical issue for your safety your will regret it.

I am unvaccinated and I haven΄t taken any prescription drugs since 25-30 years ago furthermore I hate dirty hospitals but all of these things is for my own and not for others . In other words I am "doctor" only for myself because I know my strengths and not for others except to give some advice in weekly  nutricion program and anagenitic medics with vitamins. I know to write you liposomals vitamin to reduce immediately your increased glucuse level but this way its not right because your will temporarly solve the symptom and not the.....problem which it will exist.

Again I friendly repeat do not ask to solve "online" any medical issue for your safety your will regret it.

So, are local labs cheaper than having work done at hospitals?

Are there any restrictions? Anyone can walk in and request various tests, on a whim, without an order from a medical doctor?

If true, I might be up for some blood work, such as D3 serum levels, etc.

No need to have a medical doctor read the results, either...  (I will send my lab results to you, for interpretation...OR...I will just post them directly on the TV Forum, in order to spark a lively debate.  Good idea for a Topic, by the way....)

Mengrai Labs in Chiang Rai does my blood work every 3 months, a full blood examination costs me about 1200 baht, including liver function. They email the results to me, which I forward to an specialist in Australia.

It's the same as showing a pharmacist here a prescription medication, they will fill most of them with the exception of restricted compounds. I think most meds are more expensive in hospitals.

All I did was show Mengrai labs a set of results from Australia, and ask them to run the same tests. I usually get the results back after 3 hours.

The specialist in Australia has said Mengrai does a professional job.

I would suggest Sheryl for interpretation. Mengrai flags any results which are outside normal range.

Thank you for the very helpful information.

(You can be sure that I will post (on TV) the results of my next FULL and COMPREHENSIVE test panels in a forthcoming Topic to be submitted soon.  The cost, as you have just informed me, is super low!  So then, why not? (The only thing I do not like is the requirement to fast for the hepatic function panel, etc.))

If I meet any famous people while visiting the lab in Chiang Mai, I will post her photo, too!

@Negita43 As suggest, you should get a HbA1c, and more accurate than FSB/Glucose test.   It measures blood sugar over a 3 month period.  I'm actually do for one 21st of May.   As my FSB 'blood test' is usually on the outside, and past the high end of normal.

Most resent HbA1c test done a couple months ago, and on the high end 'within normal'.

Here's something that may interest you.  This test what, when & how to eat foods, and monitors the blood spike.   Quite interesting and informative.  By adjusting the what, when & how (sequence & combination) of food, you can limit your spikes.

Thats what periodic check up are for.  Sorry just my opinion as I am the kind of person that had to give up reading medical journals because I seemed to have the syptoms of everything lol.  All my mates suffer health paranoia, seems the worrying ages them more than the years.  I take no meds at all, perform no tests on myself and just go to the doctors if I feel ill.  As I say, just my opinion and it has worked for me so far. and Im 73 years old.
