Me: Had a very untrained pitbull dumped on me by a relative (pitbull debate? Start your own thread).

 

Dumb as a rock, very sweet, 'had a bad habit of forcefully licking visitor's crotches -which is literally a buzz kill from a dog known for dismemberment.

 

Googled. Found a pitbull rescue organization. Actually found 2, a pitbull bidding war almost ensued. 'Went with The Lesbians -woke or what? 'Gone the next day.

Additional thought: I lived for a long time in England. England is about a 1,000% more humane and evolved in terms of breed dogs than the USA. Prob the rest of Europe too.

Got one now....English Bull Terrier.....he and the wife dote on each other.....but he has attacked me 5 or 6 times and bitten 3 times.....no way will she get rid of it.

Yes, I have and the rescue dog was young enough to be retrained. Unfortunately I had top put it down as it developed premature arthritis due to being overfed as a pup, causing immense stress to its developing skeletal structure. 

 

Noem was not wrong to shoot a dog that worries livestock. I was brought up on farms and with the hunting fraternity. They would have no hesitation in shooting problematic dogs, especially dogs they owned. Some dogs are born mental, certain collies are born defective with a condition called NCL5. This can turn them aggressive. As soon as its noticed they will be shot without hesitation. 

 

ps - your boast about the English being 1000% more humane ( utter garbage ). What do you think happened to all the racing greyhounds? Dredge the rivers and ponds and you'll find thousands of skeletal remains.

Not a chance it would still be drawing breath after biting me three times. And its capable of biting you mind your conscience when it rag dolls a five year old kid.

Growing we had toy poodles and they were pretty great family pets. The only issue is that they are very smart / neurotic and tend to absorb the emotional issues of their humans.

 

There was a problem dog but it was very short lived. We brought home an Italian Greyhound and it took just a few days to realize we weren't up to such a higher maintenance dog. It was the breed, not the specific dog. The breeder took it back.

My son has a rescue dog ( small terrier ) which was badly traumatized prior to his ownership. Unsocialized, would attack any other dog irrespective of size. He employed a dog trainer who has the dog much better trained.

 

One behavior which cannot be modified is her predator instinct. She is death on chickens, can chase them down in a few seconds. Outdoors, she has to be on a leash at all times.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Had  Afghans . Incredibly intelligent animals. Also prone to individualism rather than loyal obedience but truly  loyal up to a point.

First was a dog of good pure breeding that eventually demonstrated an unfathomable hatred of uniforms. Especially  law enforcement uniforms. Incredibly tolerant of children under the age of 12 .Would tolerate  crawling infants painfully exploring his carcass including  clutching copious hands full of dog hair to traverse over his body while he merely twitched lips until such point he could gently rise and exit to escape.

Eventually was relocated due to spousal discord with  bil. Became an apartment lounge lizard.

Second was a daughter of the original. Hated children under the age of 12. Due to typical unidentified genetic "too" close breeding was infertile and eventually died of breast cancer after many many  false pregnancies.

Pets are  always a problem .....if impact on lifestyle is an issue.

But from their point of view humans are  probably exponentially  much worse.

The Lesbians wanted one that licked crotches? Was it a boy or a girl?

I had a mynah bird that called people nasty, dirty, filthy names. I don't know who taught him to do that.

Viscous cocker spaniel. Came wagging tail and then turned and bit all of us. Would have put her down in a heartbeat if it were my decision.

Got 2 puppies from a dog rescue place, they hated me, impossible on a lead even after being told they were trained, I found out they had been 'Rescued' from the jungle, I spent days securing the fence all round our property, no way would they stay inside 1 ria just had to burrow out, and go back to being soi dogs,  luckily I got the 'rescue' place to take them back otherwise they would have to be chained up all day, something I do not want to do to any dog.

The dog we have now just lays by the open gate or under my car, only barks if someone comes on our land.

 He always carries a leaf in his mouth, I have never understood why.

In many countries they are not allowed because they cause problems. The main problem are the owners. Therefore you have to pass a test before getting the permission for a Pitbull.

And many failed.

Those are maybe now in Thailand and on AN now as we see.

16 month old boxer. He eats the bench seat at the local park. He eats trees. He stops and lays down in the middle of the road.

Yup , had one !, back in the 70’s.My dad took it out in the woods and shot it after biting his granddaughter’s face.

He loved that dog, up until that day!

Lovely Rhodesian Ridgeback, that loved sleeping on the sofa and bed.

I had a tough choice, get rid of the mutt or the wife would leave.

That dog had a great life, sleeping where he wanted in the house for many years after

Yes. My ex wife was a doggy person and during our 17 year marriage, always insisted on keeping at least two dogs in the house. Every one of them was a pest in its own way, but to keep the peace I went along with it. Since our divorce in 2000, I've never owned another dog, nor have I regretted it. My Thai wife of the past 16 or so years isn't "doggy" either which makes for a happy marriage. However we still have to suffer the noise from idiots in our hamlet who let their animals wander around crapping everywhere and barking day and night. At least when I was a dog owner, I kept mine in check.

No farmer would allow a dog that attacks livestock to live. It's an instant death sentence.

Attacked you 5 or six times . Get the thing out out ie dead . Next time it might kill you or some innocent individual. I love dogs  but all breeds need training socialising with humans and other dogs . Prop is certain breads need more experienced owners to do this obviously you are not . As after a dog has attacked you once it will do it again with nasty results. Esp the breed you have , best advice put a bullet in its head
