I tend to agree. A long time ago when I first started visiting, a long term expat told me that everything in Thailand is for sale for the right price. They generally have a different towards this and whilst the majority might not be actively and regularly selling it, it doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t if the price was right? This can be applied to just about any country in different forms though and you only have to look at say supermodels with aging but loaded rockstars etc?  Here though the arrangement is just a bit more up front.

Earlier this year, Chatchalawan and the sex industry representatives in Thailand repeated their call for progress on the act. They insist that sex work is a bona fide job and should thus have equivalent employment rights. The issue was highlighted again on Labour Day.

How many are being trafficked, being forced to work against their will? I would never patronize a person I thought was being trafficked, I would never support their pimp. Every worker should be doing it of their own free will, and keeping the money they earn. Every person trafficking others should be locked up in jail. Forced prostitution is wrong, we should not support that.

And during that time, authorities didn't find a single one in Pattaya .............

Every brothel in Europe, Australia, Japan, South Korea is full of Thai girls, so, I don't know if they count them as local sex workers

Pretty easy to find the report (Google the report Titile), has other interesting data. For example, says Russia has about 3M workers but not listed here.  Says about 4M are trafficked, Asia being the primary source. Also, webcam models, Onlyfans, and other internet sites are included in the statistics. A breakdown between the % of hands-on(flesh) vs technology workers might be interesting as well.

Get realistic. Compare apples with apples and statistics of this kind should exclude small children and elder folks. If you apply the age window of 16 to 50, you're pretty spot on. Yes, there is the illegal less than 16 years old and some beyond 45 don't want to leave the trade - but you covered most of it. 

Then you will see, that the percentage is considerably higher and, given the fact, that there is a house of ill repute literally everywhere in this country you can take it to the bank, that Thailand is among the top three. 

Legalize the trade, don't just ignore it away as absolutely everybody in the land knows, that prostitution and corruption are both the backbone of many, many millions of Baht ......... me thinks! 

I met girls without the burden of children born out of wedlock, who were simply too lazy to work a "normal" job. Their iPhone-mania, their solid gold necklaces, motorbikes for brothers and pick-up trucks for the uncles, fathers etc. - all on installments of course - were overriding elements in their materialism driven by monetary greed second to none. Hence legalize it or - even promote it through the TAT. Maybe not what the average country would do but see the cannabis legalization .......... 

Who and how do they arrive at these figures, more click bate.

"The International Union of Sex Workers (IUSW)".... Regardless of who it is, I also look at polls done by special interest groups as highly suspect. These numbers look like something I would come up with given a couple hours on the internet and a spreadsheet.

I live in a small village in rural Isaan and I know many cases of lazy women who go to work in Pattaya or the casinos across the boarder. Not just for the money but also for the fun and hoping to find a rich foreigner. One I personally know trough my partner has met a rich Chinese and is very happy to spend his Yuan and Dollars. This doesn’t motivate other young women to work hard….

And you can make an argument that a hot, young sex worker here is alot more honest than the average hot young civilian in the West. At least here you know what you will have to dish out up front for the prize.
