Homeowner killed in a tragic house fire in Nakhon Si Thammarat

A 50-year-old man sadly lost his life in a tragic house fire in Nakhon Si Thammarat, believed to have been caused by an electrical fault. The man managed to escape from the fire before ultimately dying from smoke inhalation.

 

The fire was reported by Police Inspector Sompong Khongkaew from Thung Yai Police Station yesterday, June 5, at 11pm. The fire had started in a one-story house in the Prik Subdistrict, Thung Yai District. Firefighters, paramedics from Thung Yai Hospital and volunteers from the Pracha Ruamjai Foundation all responded quickly to the incident.

 

On their arrival, the emergency services found that the fire was concentrated in the bedroom, causing significant damage to everything inside. In an awful twist, the homeowner, 50-year-old Pairoj, was found 10 meters away from the house. His body showed signs of heavy smoke inhalation, according to a relative who arrived later at the scene.

 

The relative had been away at the time of the fire and was alerted by neighbours. She returned home to find the firefighters at work and her uncle absent. His lifeless body was later found on the lawn.

 

Officials believe the fire may have started due to an electrical fault in the bedroom where Pairoj was sleeping. He was woken up by the smoke and tried to escape but inhaled a lethal quantity of smoke during his escape, leading to his death outside the house, according to a representative from the fire department.

 

This scenario matches with the results of the medical examination, which suggested that Pairoj died from smoke inhalation - specifically carbon dioxide poisoning - as reported in KhaoSod.

 

Following an investigation and autopsy, Pairoj's body was given to his family so they could perform the traditional funeral rites. At the same time, authorities are working out the scale of the damage in order to provide appropriate help.

Another example of the dangers of smoke. Without a working smoke alarm the reality is that by the time you wake up, it may already be too late.

Most people do not die from flames, but are dead before the fire reaches them, from smoke inhalation or by breathing in super heated fire gases.

 

People that are fatigued, had too much drink or drugs, are less likely to be woken at all, with the smoke killing them in their sleep. Heavy smokers will also be less likely to become aware of smoke, as their senses have built up an immunity to smoke,

 

In this incident , there are no reports that the body was burnt, so autopsy, and evidence of the lungs and windpipe, will determine if it was smoke or heated fire gases or both, that were the cause his death. It is also possible that the fire caused a medical event, heart attack,etc..

 

Images, below show that the fire completely burnt out the bedroom, with the roof collapsing into the room.

Yep, just last Sunday one of our neighbours rent bungalows 'ignited' - I was minding my s&ite some 20 meters away, heard a dampened woosh and thought like oi, someone effed up with either some frying oil, cooking gas or gasoline used as firestarter ...

 

Apparently faulty flat TV, couple years old I gather, bungalow rented out but nobody in over the long weekend, all closed and locked up & apparently left electrics plugged in ... anyway, we saw smoke immediately - actually I think it might have been slowly smoldering for a while, gathering smoke inside witch then at some point finally ignited kinda like a slow, dampened explosion - deflagration I believe the correct term to be.

 

Owner was at home, we happened to have 4 folks working on unrelated construction but nothing left to do but take hammers, smash windows back & front and go at it with extended garden hoses both sides from the outside, damned windows all grilled up but initially way too hot & smoky to even try to get anywhere inside anyway.

 

Will say not too much damage directly by flames but still pretty much all & anything inside effed up from stinky smoke, black sooth and like ankle-deep water in the crib ... luckily no one even slightly injured in our case ...
