Buriram Abbot Moved After Loudspeaker Outburst Amidst Funeral Stress

A recent incident involving Phra Khru Sutthithamparahat, the 47-year-old abbot of Mueang Fai Temple in Nang Rong District, Buriram Province, has captivated local attention.

 

Just before dawn, at around 4am, the abbot unexpectedly activated the temple’s loudspeaker system and started shouting incoherently, causing concern among the residents. Many speculated that he might have been under the influence of a substance.

 

The event quickly sparked lively online discussions, leading the Buriram Provincial Police Commander to order an immediate investigation. Officers from the Nang Rong Police Station responded by visiting the temple and requesting a urine test. However, this was not conducted due to objections from fellow monks and some villagers, who considered it inappropriate.

 

Further investigation revealed a more complex background behind the abbot's unusual behaviour. It was disclosed that Phra Khru Sutthithamparahat was overwhelmed with stress while arranging the royal cremation ceremony for his late father, who had passed away just two days earlier. Phra Maha Phairot Rojana, a monk from Thai Chan Samakkhi Temple and a close friend, escorted the abbot to Thai Chan Samakkhi Temple to help him regain composure.

 

Prasarn Khunnamwong, the headman of Moo 9, Ban Prasat in Mueang Fai Subdistrict, provided insight into the incident. He highlighted that the abbot is typically dedicated to his duties and known for his steady behaviour. The immense pressure to organise his father's funeral in a limited timeframe, combined with a lack of assistance, likely led to the outburst.

 

Khunnamwong added, “The abbot has a naturally loud voice and is about to travel to the southern region. He probably used the loudspeaker to call fellow monks for a meeting, resulting in the unexpected commotion.”

The community is now giving the abbot the space and support needed to recover from the stress and return to his duties.

So, all it takes for the police to walk away is some others to tell them it is inappropriate. What type of investigating technique is this? 

We should all try that in the bar when they come to pee test everyone there.
