This is great news for press freedom and human rights. Like others, I am sceptical that the US will let him go once he is in their hands. Just in case anyone doesn't remember what he did, here is the video of an American helicopter killing civilians.

This is what a victory for the people often looks like: guy does nothing wrong, rots for 15 years and a lesson is taught to all other journalists to never tell the truth, and he finally gets out and who knows what on earth can happen to him now, but yeah… huge “victory”.

Assange doesn’t simply get to admit guilt, he needs to confess the extent of his crimes and, importantly, give up coconspirators.

The charges didn't just disappear. Two of the charges were dropped because of the (Swedish) stature of limitations had expired. The rape charge was dropped because " ... the evidence has weakened considerably due to the long period of time that has elapsed since the events in question ... (Ms Persson - Deputy Director of Public Prosecution) ... emphasised that the injured party has submitted a credible and reliable version of events".

They didn't "disappear", they were dropped, officially, years ago, by the prosecutor due to weak evidence.

Not quite as simple as that. The evidence has "weakened" due to the long delay in pursuing the cases, in part due to Assange's unwillingness to cooperate.

Finally someone saw sense. I guess the press will be thronging in their thousands to get a glimpse of him and paying through the nose for interviews while for 12 years they ignored him and hid in the shadows while this one true journalist was persecuted.

 

There won't be a real journo among the lot of them and Julian will stand alone as a man that told the truth and revealed the crimes of the true criminals... Being the USA and their terrorist military.
