"safe driving habits," I know this was said in jest, but I have done quite a bit of driving and riding a motorbike in central Bangkok over the years and found it much safer than all the other cities in Thailand. Just my experience.

What is your annual bill for agent, or to become resident or what ever it is you do to avoid ever going to an immigration office?

Not even past the first page and the sceptics come out of the woodwork. I spent my first 6 years living here in my own home and never knew where the immigration office was. It wasn't until I got caught up in the UK 2014 passport fiasco I had to go to immigration and get an extension to avoid overstaying. Dec 2019 I went back on ME visa but sod's law, covid came along, couldn't leave the country and had to go back on extension. When people think one place is better than another they tend to exaggerate the reasons for their perception. Been to Cambodia, seen it and wouldn't go back. If someone thinks that the following is good reason to live there it is up to them, doesn't make it valid for others. No reports? - I haven't done a 90 day for 16 months. No TM30s? - I haven't done a TM30 since 2015 No fees for reentry? - are we to believe the Cambodian visa is free? No contact at all with an immigration drone? - illegal entry to Cambodia?

If on ME visa they are not required as the normal entry is 90 days. I have been on extension last few years but done a few trips out of the country. Even if they are required, no big deal, only a few minutes online.

Regretably, I cannot because I no longer have two vehicles to service and support - a Toyota Fortuner and a Nissan King Cab pick-up. My bank balance is much better these days as I no longer drive, relying on local tuk-tuks. The two Thai cities I lived near were first Phayao (Lanna) then Khon Kaen (Isaan). Food costs are similar to Thailand. My rent is more expensive but the Khmer accomodation is far more luxurious. In Thailand I was paying 3,500 baht per month for a small basic bungalow (about 96 US$) excluding water, electricity and internet. Here in Siem Reap I now live with a Khmer family in a large modern detached house. I rent the complete first (upper) floor for 350US$ per month, again excluding electricity and internet. Water is included and I share the internet cost with my landlord (50/50 and cheaper than Thailand). I have my own side door and stairs to my accomodation so as not to disturb the family below me. Electricity in Cambodia is expensive as much has to be bought from Thailand and Laos. Whatever, for me living in Siem Reap is a hassle free pleasure with no visa worries. My annual retirement visa costs 300$ (includes multiple re-enties) with no 90 day reporting) So simple to apply for. Edited July 7, 20242 yr by Burma Bill additional information
July 8, 20242 yr Because it is the most beautiful country in the world, the people are the nicest you will meet anywhere and the cost of living here is comfortable. I Love Thailand and hope I never have to leave. My America has went to hell! However, immigration is becoming more and more difficult if you are a US citizen. Edited July 8, 20242 yr by Deputy7
