Done this many times and you'll usually find that the first plane gets in much earlier than scheduled and even if they come in on-time/slightly late they will hold the connecting flight. -

Must Read Its Happening - Law to Tax Overseas Income Now in Progress
Though many expats here may have been required to get a Thai tax ID and to file tax forms here (after becoming a Thai tax resident have not paid income taxes here previously as that was a"gray" area, they may be required now if they have assessable income to get a TIN and file taxes. If American, you already should have been filing for US taxes so you might check the DTA to see if any of your income is currently non-taxable in Thailand. If you do have assessable income in Thailand, you may have to pay some Thai tax if it is more than that taken out by the US....i.e. US tax rate is 10% and Thai tax rate on the amount is 15% then Thailand could charge you for 5% of that amount. There are still some countries (for example - the Philippines does not charge retirees on their income/pensions while other SEA countries are doing the same as Thailand for the future. Very complicated and at this moment while one might think about it, we wait for the final forms to come out and the finale judgement of the Revenue Department for this year only on remittances. This new scheme may never come to fruition especially in the short term. -

Caravan travel into Malaysia
I have seen a few travel trailers and mini motorhomes here in Chiang Mai but not many. Great opportunity for someone to both further develop Thai Nat’l Parks to include camping “hookups” and develop a private system of caravan/ motorhome parks near many of the already established Thai tourist sites. Perhaps in partnership with a Thai rental company of the caravans/mini motorhomes. But until then … I think you are the bleeding edge for such travel figuring it out as you go. Does GPS have camping sites like they mark gas stations, etc.? -

Unless I missed it, it was not mentioned in the Op but I suspect this was a codeshare flight whereby the tickets were purchased 'through Thai Airways' but the flight was on a different airline - I'm guessing S.A.S... ... And when there was a delay and missed connection S.A.S. could not deal with the re-routing as it was Thai Airways responsibility (according to the ticketing)... BUT... Thai Airways were not prepared, had no one in a position of authority available to attend to the passengers and resolve re-routing / re-ticketing etc - which is the obvious crux of the complaint... As mentioned, this is a good reason not to go on code-share flights. -
