Transgender Woman Arrested for Online Silk Scam

In a significant crackdown on online fraud, police in Chiang Rai arrested a transgender woman running an online silk scam, defrauding around 50 victims monthly and yielding 20,000 baht per month.

Led by Deputy Commissioner Major General Weerachon Boonthavee, the Region 5 police, alongside other senior officers, apprehended 21-year-old Yutthakarn at a dormitory in Ban Khu, Mueang district.

The Region 5 Technology Crime Suppression Center, in collaboration with investigation teams, had been tracking a Facebook page promoting handwoven cotton and silk products.

Maj. Gen. Weerachon revealed that Yutthakarn, under various aliases, advertised silk and cotton products at attractive prices on Facebook, deceiving many customers who never received their orders after transferring the money.

Yutthakarn, who had a warrant issued by the Uthai Thani Provincial Court for fraud and computer crimes, confessed to the scam. By posting images of silk and cotton items such as bags, clothes, and fabrics at low prices, she lured in numerous customers.

When customer complaints began to surface, Yutthakarn would block the victims and continue the scam using new Facebook names. This fraudulent activity had been ongoing since January, and Yutthakarn frequently changed Facebook page names to evade detection.

She admitted to defrauding approximately 40 to 50 victims each month, earning around 15,000 to 20,000 baht. Yutthakarn faces charges of fraud and inputting false information into a computer system, resulting in damage to others. The suspect has been handed over to the police for further legal proceedings.

In related news, a man from Nakhon Ratchasima was disheartened after spending 499 baht on what he believed to be a set of tools but instead received three bottles of water. Nirat Sukboon, a resident of Nai Mueang subdistrict, presented the evidence to Phimai Police Station, highlighting another instance of online fraud.

Why it's mentioned "transgender"?

Only transgenders are scammers?

Glad I deleted FB about 8 years ago...

I have never been on Fakebook.

Suckerberg is totally without morals.

Nasty person.

I joined up with faecebook years ago.  But in less than 12hrs decided it wasn't for me.

Took about 6 months to fully cancel the account and stop all the spam coming through. I was surprised by the amount of questions they asked about my cancellation.

Don't miss it.
