Phuket And Krabi Airport Figures Show Record Highs For First 6 Months Of The Year

The Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited, which manages Phuket International Airport, have informed Andaman News about their latest record statistics in the first 6 months of the year from January up to June 2007. They showed a total of 19,993 aircraft movements, up 36% from 2006. The numbers of arriving, departing and transit passengers were just over 2.8 million for 6 months, showing increases of 24% compared to the same period last year, which was a previous record year. Even the total freight showed 9,520 tonnes in and out, a 7% increase over 2006. These are therefore the highest ever numbers at Phuket Airport, showing a continuous boom.

Meanwhile Krabi International Airport, under the Civil Aviation Department, also reported its figures up to June 2007, with a total of 4,460 aircraft movements or 113% increases over 2006 and even 34% more than 2004, the previous record year. The total numbers of passengers arriving and departing, with no transits, was just over 466,000 or 87% more than 2006, or 239% more than 2004. The total freight showed about 584,000 kilograms in and out, a 36% increase over 2006. Again these are all record highs for Krabi.

The number of international tourist arrivals to the country so far this year has increased about 4% more than last year.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand have released their own latest official statistics on the number of international tourist arrivals to Thailand, from January to May 2007, based on sources of data by the Immigration Bureau, Police Department, but excluding overseas Thais. The grand total was 5,923,291 which was 4.28% more than the same period last year. About 4.9 million came by air, while about 870,000 came by land or road, and about 117,000 came by sea or ship. About 3 million were from East Asia which decreased by 3%, while 1.75 million were from Europe increasing 15%, 390,000 from the Americas which was about the same, 279,000 from South Asia which was 10% more, 286,000 from Oceania which was 20% more, and 157,000 from the Middle East which was 22% more.
