Ex-Police Officer Thwarted in Phatthalung Gold Shop Heist

A former police officer, dismissed from service, attempted to rob a gold shop in Phatthalung’s central market but was foiled by the sharp-eyed shop owner who noticed the gun was a fake and managed to subdue the suspect.

 

At around 11:30 am, a concerned citizen reported a robbery at Yaowarat Gold Shop, located in the fresh market within Phatthalung Municipality. Phatthalung City Police swiftly responded, arriving at the scene to detain the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Jem, a former officer dismissed from service in the three southern border provinces.

 

CCTV footage captured Jem entering the shop, donning a helmet and brandishing a gun. Using a hammer, he smashed the glass display case containing gold items, causing significant damage. However, the shop owner realised the gun was not real and tackled Jem, preventing him from escaping. 

 

"I noticed the gun was fake, so I took my chance and tackled him," the shop owner said.

 

Currently, the police are interrogating Jem, who has provided limited information. Prior to the robbery attempt, Jem was seen riding a motorcycle around the vicinity of the gold shop. He later parked the motorcycle at a nearby temple and was then driven to the gold shop by an accomplice, where he attempted the heist.

 

Further updates on the investigation will be provided as the situation unfolds, according to KhaoSod.

 

In a related incident, police apprehended a Thai man at an apartment in Samut Sakhon for the theft of a gold necklace valued at nearly 130,000 baht, following a four-hour manhunt. The suspect committed the crime at a som tam restaurant in Nakhon Pathom on July 12. He pretended to order food from the victim, then used a gun to threaten her into handing over her gold necklace.

 

Both cases highlight the increasing incidences of gold theft and the vigilance needed by both shop owners and the police in keeping communities safe.

How good is that hey, 

An Ex copper and a Fake Gun.   Must have  been  a  Sad copper that he couldn't have a couple Real guns some somewhere  stashed away.

why use expensive words...  we aren't all natives

 

I am still surprised this does not happen 10x  a day

 

 

but let in more people visa free, some that live in our home countries, where stealing is ok, but in their own home country, they cut off a limb ,  maybe we will get to multiple daily reports...
