An older man undergoing therapy for severe alcohol addiction managed to sneak away from a hospital in Chai Nat, garbed in a bloodied hospital gown. He was later intercepted and returned by the police, after claiming he was on his way to a friend's housewarming event.

Officers from the local police force in Chai Nat province had started a search operation for a patient who had slipped out of Chai Nat Narenthorn Hospital. The man, who was receiving therapy for severe alcohol addiction, had unfastened himself from his hospital bed and vanished.

Around 15 minutes later, the police found him and brought him back. He was near a crossroads in front of the Chai Nat City Police Station. The hospital had notified the police and an observant citizen reported sighting a man in a hospital gown wandering from the bridge over the Chao Phraya River toward the intersection.

On closer inspection, police identified the patient as Chai (not his real name), who is roughly 65 years old. He was dressed in a hospital gown, barefoot, and covered with a white hospital blanket. He also had a bag of treats and a drink.

His blanket was smeared with blood. When a concerned bystander asked Chai about the blood on his clothing, he showed an injury on his arm, claiming that he had taken a fall. His hospital ID bracelet was still in place.

When the officials arrived, they questioned Chai about why he was in that location. Chai denied being a hospital patient, asserting that he hadn't been to the hospital. Instead, he claimed that he was on his way to a buddy's housewarming event and the clothes he was wearing were borrowed from a friend.

The police offered to call him a cab to get to his destination, while they waited for the hospital's vehicle to come collect him, thus tricking him. Chai eventually complied.

As per a reporter’s information, Chai had been in the hospital for several days undergoing treatment for his severe alcohol addiction. His intense desire for alcohol motivated him to find an escape route when the hospital staff was distracted. He was able to evade them until the police located him.
