B800 000 transfer from UK to Thailand

Recommended Posts

What is the cheapest and quickest way to transfer the above.

I currently use wise to do my monthly transfers but my limit is 1000 pounds a time at about 7 pounds plus a transaction.

Is that still the best method

Cheers

Why is your limit £1000?  Limit where, your bank in the UK?  Wise can send the whole lot in one go, you'll pay £100 or so in fees on THB800k but overall still probably the cheapest and easiest way to do it.

It could be that "Zoolander" is with one of the smaller Banks for whom incoming transfers are restricted to ฿50,000 or equivalent £'s whereas the big four can have unlimited transfers.  Krungsri is one of those.  Us with accounts at Kasikorn, SCB, and so on have no problem.  I forget now why the Bank of Thailand introduced this measure.

Lloyds Banking group are quite good at SWIFT transfer if you have an account with them Lloyd's / Halifax / Bank of Scotland, and can do it online on the PC.

Used them before a few years ago, straight into the yellow bank £9.50 per transfer

SWIFT transfer by Royal Bank of Scotland, free if 2 to 3 working days is acceptable.  If requiring it in your Thai bank account within 24 hours RBS charges 15 GBP per transfer.  Foreign transfers are the one thing this bank is good at.

Thought they might be making a bomb on the currency conversion, but when I compared them with a specialist transfer agency, claiming cheap rates, they were almost identical.

Found in the dim and distant past that one got a better cash exchange rate GBP to THB in Thailand than in the UK.  Do not know if this still holds good.

Also, do not change cash (or only a minimal amount) at a bank's airport branch.  Better rates in town.
