Ex-PM Thaksin’s Dubai dreams dashed: Medical treatment declined

Featured Replies

Probably going right try to get a far Eastern investment promise for some wheeling and dealing in Thailand.  Sad sad.  Just think if they said ok.    He surely didn't expect a yes so this is just a ploy.

Self-inflicted ... should have retired from public life, stayed home with his family, and out of politics.

Too right! Doctors and medical facilities are very good in Thailand. What a cheek. Tell you what, Takki, if you’re that crook, why don’t you just FO to the knacker’s yard!

Thaksin does look frail in the latest pictures that I've seen. What really surprises me is how the underestimate the intelligence of the Thai people, as Thailand is internationally regarded as one of the best places on the world for medical tourism.

Won't be surprising when they can't find him in Thailand anymore.

At least he is not back in the police hotel hospital and demands free treatment. That's something.

So he'll be there before you can say "goodbye"🤣

Cockney slang is generally well known in the UK.

Grinning muppets .

They just heard that in Dubai , they found a miracle cure for dementia ...

If he's suffering from chronic pneumonia he is not fit to fly.

Playing golf with Anutin accounts for the rotator cuff injury.

"My swing is better than your swing Mumpy"

Surely there's a half decent hospital in Chonburi somewhere! Yingluck could even drive him there!

The Criminal Court dashed former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s hopes of jetting off to Dubai for medical treatment.

The embattled ex-leader requested to travel to the UAE from August 1 to 16, citing a slew of health issues, including chronic pneumonia, respiratory and coronary symptoms, a torn right rotator cuff, and spinal disc herniation. Thaksin, who celebrated his 75th birthday last week, claimed he needed to consult with physicians who had treated him during his previous stay in the Middle East.

Adding to the intrigue, Thaksin’s request included plans to meet several key figures in the UAE on what were described as personal missions. He assured the court that he would return to Thailand before his next court appearance on August 19, where he faces charges under the royal defamation law and the Computer Crime Act for remarks made during a 2015 interview with South Korean media.

However, the court remained unmoved, stating that Thaksin’s conditions could be adequately treated by doctors in Thailand. The judges also noted that his proposed meetings in Dubai had no medical relevance. Thaksin’s request was consequently denied, continuing his legal woes since his return from 15 years of self-imposed exile last August.

The former premier, who was ousted in a 2006 military coup, was swiftly sentenced to eight years in prison upon his return, later reduced to one year through royal clemency. After falling ill on his first night in prison, he spent six months in hospital before being paroled in February, reported The Nation.

I contracted pneumonia a few years ago after Influenza A, was promptly treated and recovered.

My wife had a rota cuff tear repaired six months ago, again fully recovered.

The medical treatment here in Thailand is excellent cannot imagine why it would be better in the UAE.

I will send him the names of our doctors at Chiang Mai Ram hospital.

I remember the name and the iconic gong, but was not familiar with the slang term...!

He only wants a medical certificate saying he is too unwell to go to jail

And yet the masses outside Bangkok still love him...

Not really. Every one I know in Issan has forsaken him and no longer supports him. After selling out both his party and his soul, few respect him anymore. His relevance has diminished greatly. His moral bankruptcy has multiplied and grown. He is an embarrassment to all.

Don't quite understand, healthcare in Thailand is said to be one of the best in the world....then surely you don't need to go to Dubai for medical treatment.
Or....is the medical care not so good after all, which I already suspected myself.

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me." What comes after "Fool me three times, shame on…?"

He smells something burning and wants to run away again

Are they getting wise to his selfserving antics. He was happy to have Thai doctors  help him avoid jail.

Poor man was at death's door....don't be so mean.

Last time it was so he could see the Olympics in Beijing.

Wasn't Dubai one of his campsites during his more recent exile?  I suspect has something wrap up, maybe selling some property.

I gather he wants to run away to Dubai, again, having upset those who allowed him to return to Thailand on the condition he stayed out of politics. He has found out his departure will be blocked at any airport and is raising medical issues as a last resort. it won't work, and he is stuck. Entirely his own fault. Should have kept his mouth shut and led a quiet life.

Why does he need to go to Dubai when according to many Thailand cheerleaders Thai hospitals are world class?

Seriously, Chronic pneumonia would be enough for him to be bed ridden. This is all BS.
