Ex-PM Thaksin’s Dubai dreams dashed: Medical treatment declined

Featured Replies

His sister (former PM Yingluck Shinawatra) is still in exile as well. Last heard living in London although she became the chairwoman of a Chinese Container Terminal company located in Guangdong, not far from Hong Kong.

She is still facing a 5 year prison sentence as well. Kind of surprised she didn't get the same deal her big brother did.

Self-inflicted ... should have retired from public life, stayed home with his family, and out of politics.

Too right! Doctors and medical facilities are very good in Thailand. What a cheek. Tell you what, Takki, if you’re that crook, why don’t you just FO to the knacker’s yard!

By Kittisak Phalaharn

On July 31st, 2024, Thai national media reported that on July 27th, Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, a defendant in a Section 112 lèse-majesté case, requested permission to travel abroad. The court scheduled a hearing on the request for July 30th, and issued a ruling on the same day.

After examining the evidence, the court allowed Thaksin to be temporarily released while his case was under review, but prohibited him from leaving the country.

Thaksin sought to travel to the United Arab Emirates (Dubai) from August 1 to 16, 2024, for medical treatment. He reportedly plans to see medical experts on August 2nd and 8th for chronic pneumonia, respiratory and cardiovascular issues, a torn right shoulder ligament, and a herniated disc.

He is not only an embarrassment to Thailand but reflect the sad state of weak Thai laws where a Wealthy and Politically Connected Thai convicted felony can evade serving full jail time In Thailand's Two-Tiered Justice System and who now want to travel abroad during his GPS Ankle Braclet Free parole...

There - fixed it!

Looks like he's having to use the local hospitals & get ripped off like the rest of us.

We should thank Thaksin for telling the world that Thai doctors are useless I suppose.

Personally, I haven't decided to fly abroad for treatment.

He must be gutted he's not still in jail....then he could have enjoyed the 5* treatment courtesy of the police hospital

Not really. Every one I know in Issan has forsaken him and no longer supports him. After selling out both his party and his soul, few respect him anymore. His relevance has diminished greatly. His moral bankruptcy has multiplied and grown. He is an embarrassment to all.

Same, same here in our village Spider. A couple of years ago they would not hear a bad word about Him, now, the political climate has done a u turn. Strangely, the same goes for a person who cannot be mentioned.

Respect has to be earned, and should never, ever be freely given.

He basically owns Praram9 Hospital by proxy...

No wonder I needed the assistance of Google and Wikipedia to figure that one out. I’d never heard of J. Arthur Rank, and I doubt too many other people have!

Good for you! A little investigate work will do you no great harm.  I guess it is a generational thing.

a torn right rotator cuff, and spinal disc herniation.

Sounds like problems I had with a car, when it failed it's MOT.....:cheesy:

Just let him go, and lock the door so he can't get back in.

Blimey, Thaksin's getting to look for like Squirtle, Leo's aged box turtle mate in the eponymous film, every day. lol

The whole Middle East with their totally wrapped-in women fly to Bangkok for all sorts of medical treatments; some of the "less cheap" hospitals have sign boards in Arabic on each and every floor, prayer rooms and loos.
Banning Thaksin is nothing but making it crystal clear "who is who on the banana boat". The dinosaurs cooked up a deal a year ago to get the second most popular party into power and hence be able to form an 11-party coalition. The second biggest party was puppet mastered by who? It was a delicate situation keeping the dinosaurs in place and Thaksin out. So they just cooked up a deal - et voilà! Thaksins commitment comes to an end in three weeks - let's wait and see, if autumn will be as interesting as to keep the folks off the road for the next series of political soap operas? Anutin waits in the wings, Chalerm popped up again with his three little sweetheart sons and Thammanat is having his 15 minutes of fame as well. As said, get the popcorn out, it will be a splendid season of the "Ministry of Musical Chairs" again 😉

However, the court remained unmoved, stating that Thaksin’s conditions could be adequately treated by doctors in Thailand.

Indeed, Thai soft power and all that. Being the hub of hubs includes being a medical hub.

It's funny how that comes to bite him.

Laugh of the day.

Pity...

I wonder what ordinary Thais think about dear leader, that Thai hospitals and doctors are not good enough for him.

Surely if a person was too ill to receive ANY visitors when they were too ill to go to jail, they are definitely not fit enough to fly. Of course there may be also concern they are a flight risk. I can't imagine why.

It's amazing what a few Baht can do.

Sure, but that's the same for every politician who buys rural votes.

Mrs Chelseafan's family still think he was the best PM.

At last a court that refused a request from the former fugitive so last week he was having a huge family party now he wants to return to his adopted country does he know something we don’t only time will tell !

thailand best of everything, bnh... not good enough?

probably want to plot some other deals

maybe he can ask the man that agreed with his return

They were good enough whilst having to spend time in prison wonder what the doctors think who were supposedly taking care of him in the police hospital
