Flooding in Chanthaburi leaves man dead after vomiting blood

Flooding in Chanthaburi has turned homes into islands, and a 52 year old man suffering from a severe illness has died after vomiting blood. Despite his family’s desperate call for rescue, they could not reach him in time. Police, doctors, and rescue workers had to use off-road vehicles and flat-bottom boats to retrieve the body.

Officers received a report yesterday, July 31, of a deceased man at a house in a fruit orchard located in Moo 1, Sa Lang subdistrict, Mueang district, Chanthaburi province. The team, including forensic doctors from Phra Pokklao Hospital and rescue workers from the Sawang Katanyu Thammasathan Chanthaburi Association, immediately went to the scene.

The area was a low-lying region adjacent to a canal with floodwaters reaching 30 to 40 centimetres. The rescue crew had to navigate off-road vehicles to a bridge before using flat-bottom boats to transport the police and forensic doctors to the house.

Upon arrival, they found the house elevated, yet the kitchen area was submerged, damaging various belongings. Inside, the body of the 52 year old man was discovered lying on a mattress. There were no signs of physical assault, and he had been dead for approximately five to six hours. His wife, a bedridden stroke patient, was also present in the house.

Interviews revealed that the deceased had no chronic illnesses. The previous night, he experienced a sudden tooth fall, leading to continuous bleeding and severe vomiting of blood.

The next morning, he complained of a headache but still managed to collect donated food for flood victims. However, upon returning home and lying down, he had two convulsions and became unresponsive. The family immediately sought help, but the rescue team could not arrive in time, and he passed away.

The rescue team faced significant challenges in moving the body. They had to transport it by boat first, then transfer it to an off-road vehicle to reach a dry area before finally taking it to Phra Pokklao Hospital for a detailed autopsy.

Initial medical examinations indicated that the cause of death was acute bleeding from gastrointestinal ulcers. The family did not suspect any foul play and proceeded with funeral arrangements according to their religious practices, reported KhaoSod.
