Girl's Talk by Nick Lowe.

Correct on the song but I thought it was Dave Edmunds who sang it. He happened to be a bandmate of Nick Lowe in Rockpile. Both of them often collaborated with Elvis Costello (who wrote Girl's Talk and happens to be my favourite musician and lyricist).

Nick Lowe's biggest hit was 'I love the sound of breaking glass'.

This is true. They have a bit of a niche market. The original version of the track Motörhead, written when Lemmy was their bassist before they kicked him out is worth a listen

Not trying to be pedantic,  but correct spelling of the Hawkwind  track is without the umlaut, so just Motorhead.

Track was originally recorded in early 1975 before Lemmy was sacked from Hawkwind due to a drug bust in Canada in May, and became the name of his new band, with the umlaut that started gigging in July that year.

Was originally released as a B-side to Hawkwind's  Kings of Speed in March 1975.

With the success of Motörhead (the band), Dave Brock of Hawkind re-mixed it and recorded a new vocal, releasing the single Motorhead in 1981 to take advantage of their ex Bass Player's success.

Motörhead re-recorded it in 1977 for their debut album and released it as a single. Which failed to chart. However, the live version they released in 1981 to counter Dave Brock's Hawkwind version got to No. 6 in the charts.

As far as i remember Hawkwinds only chart hit was Silver Machine.

They had another, called Urban Gurilla, but it charted just as the Munich olympic terrorist attack happened, so the radio stations would'nt play it.

Not so well known agreed, I was curious to see if anyone here would remember Hawkwind...

And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack

Big fan, ever since Croydon Fairfield Halls in September 1973. As a spotty teenage I was hooked as soon as Stacia came on stage!

Met Nik Turner at Glastonbury 1979, great stage costumes, playing under Nik Turner's Sphynx, they were all dressed as mummy's. Did limit stage movement though.

Met Lemmy a few times, absolute diamond geezer.

Yeah. I've been a fan since a teen too. I come from the W. Som/ N. Devon area so saw them many times, went to parties at Dave's farm etc. Good days...

One more...

Wind was blowing, time stood still

Eagle flew out of the night

He was something to observe

Came in close, I heard a voice

Standing, stretching every nerve

Had to listen, had no choice...
