Government Agencies Launch Cleanup Worth 14.9 Million Baht to Solve Chemical Waste Problem

The Ministry of Industry has started working with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and other relevant bodies to solve the recent chemical waste contamination issue. The Ministry of Industry's Permanent Secretary, Nattapol Rangsitpol, announced the joint efforts on August 12.

 

Nattapol took note of problems caused by illegal hazardous waste disposal in several regions including Rayong, Ayutthaya, Chachoengsao, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Phetchabun. The ministry has sent out a team to monitor these areas of concern while figuring out a long-term solution.

 

The Ministry of Industry is working with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Department of Industrial Works, the Department of Pollution Control, and the Department of Groundwater Resources. They have come up with a strategy to prevent and handle chemical leaks in six key locations.

 

These sites are the Win Process Co in Rayong, a waste storage facility in Ayutthaya, Aek Uthai company in Ayutthaya, Suntech Chemical and Logistics Company in Ayutthaya, and two illegal dumping locations in Chachoengsao. Nattapol stated that the plan was approved at a Pollution Control Committee meeting last Friday. They aim to submit the plan to the National Environment Board for further review within the month.

 

“The Hazardous Substances Management Committee has also set aside 4 million baht to remove and dispose of all aluminium waste at Win Process in Rayong.”

 

Additionally, 6.9 million baht has been earmarked to hire a disposal firm to handle waste in Phachi district, Ayutthaya. Another 4 million baht will be used to clean the area around the Aek Uthai buildings.

 

Authorities are also helping those affected by the issues caused by the Phetchabun Aek Uthai branch. They are working with the Royal Thai Police and other bodies to prosecute the culprits for illegal dumping.

 

During this operation, the pollution control committee has ordered the ministry not to use the polluted land near Win Process in Rayong, in accordance with a court order.

 

A team is working on policy preventing the use of polluted land until it is certified as safe.

And what about Thai government? Was it a year ago, they buried 14 containers of illegal pork?!

They clean up beaches and buried it a big made hole. 

How about the annual smoke crossing the country?

Maybe do better checking on companies, what is there waste and where did they put. Let them pay for waste to handle.
