In the early hours of September 7th, chaos unfolded in the heart of Bangkok when a man in his 40s to 50s, allegedly high on drugs, stole a tractor (locally known as an “e-taek”) and led a wild pursuit through the city. The incident, which began near the Makkasan railway site, ended tragically after the suspect was apprehended and beaten by an angry mob. The drama started around 00:40, when Pol. L/Cpl. Prommin Ritchaisong, a patrol officer from Pathumwan Police Station, was off duty and heading back to his residence in Makkasan. As he passed the Siam Hotel on Phetchaburi Road, he encountered a group of local residents chasing an erratically driving tractor. The residents informed him that the suspect had stolen the vehicle from a construction site and was driving dangerously under the influence of drugs. Without hesitation, Prommin joined the pursuit on his motorcycle, attempting to signal the man to stop. Despite his warnings, the suspect sped up, weaving dangerously across the road. The pursuit intensified as they neared the Saen Saeb canal bridge, where Prommin, seeing an opportunity, fired two shots at the tractor's rear tire, causing it to lose control. Even with a blown tire, the suspect continued driving recklessly, standing and dancing erratically on the vehicle as he drove. A crowd of more than 10 locals, both in cars and on motorcycles, followed closely behind. The chase continued to Khlong Tan intersection, where the tractor lost further control, veering onto the median near the Airport Rail Link station on Ramkhamhaeng Road. Despite the vehicle's damage, the man attempted to flee on foot, running in the opposite direction of traffic. He was soon caught by a furious group of locals, who surrounded him and severely beat him. Pol. L/Cpl. Prommin arrived moments later, handcuffing the unconscious man and calling for medical assistance. The suspect was rushed to Panya Hospital, but doctors later pronounced him dead at 01:35 due to severe injuries from the mob beating. A search of the tractor revealed nine methamphetamine pills and a small amount of crystal meth, but no identification documents were found. Authorities have yet to identify the deceased, as no family members have come forward, and no one has claimed ownership of the stolen tractor. Lt. Damrongsak Jaisawang, the deputy investigation officer from Hua Mak Police Station, confirmed that the body has been sent to the Police General Hospital for a detailed autopsy. The incident has raised concerns over mob justice, with the police now focusing on identifying the individuals involved in the beating. CCTV footage will be reviewed to track down the participants. -- 2024-09-08 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe 1 5 1 1 2
Popular Post jvs Posted September 8, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2024 It is very sad that a thing like mob justice still exists in a country like Thailand. Imo this is very primitive behavior and the people involved should all be charged with manslaughter. This is very similar behavior to what dogs would do in a pack and just last week we saw what they can do. “Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.” ― George Carlin 1 4 8

Just take sitting at the floor eating as one example. 1 4 8 1 2

What happened here is almost like what hooligans (soccer) try to do every weekend, stir things up and then hide behind some one else when there is a strong reaction. People all over the world are still very primitive but it most countries because of well functioning law enforcement people tend to look at what the consequences will be when ever they break the law. 1 1 2 1

In my opinion it a primitive behavior sitting on the floor eating. After that, feel free to call it what you want if it makes you feel better. 6 minutes ago, stoner said: would it be fair to say that part of the culture is primitive ? I think so. 😉 1 3 1

Most Thais who eat and sleep on the floor do not have money to buy furniture. They are used to not needing possessions. Luckily, things have improved so that most now have fridges, TV's and phones. (I am not convinced that the last two are really improvements.) 1 1 1 2 2

It is also part of(primitive) culture to look down on or disdain other cultures. That is where racism has it roots and that is very cultural because racism used to protect your safety, anything outside your tribe used to be dangerous. 1 1

It is sad, but Thailand is still very much a Third-world country in mentality. The infrastructure may have developed but the education system, political system, the culture, their beliefs, and the mentality stay firmly rooted in centuries past. 1 7

Don't worry,i am very mellow today, still a bit of a buzz. Would you agree that laws and law enforcement are a very big part of the reason why Canada is (civilized)? A lot of people are alive today because it is illegal to kill them! 1

Obviously, yes. It pretty much fits the definition of primitive exactly. Unfortunately, the "you can't say that" brigade decide that certain things aren't allowed to be said, even if they are factually accurate, because they consider them too negative. 1 1

Same with the big wooden sofas. I can't sit on them for more than a few minutes, Thais are happy to use them all day. Sadly, when you say something that people don't like, the lies begin... 🤷♂️ 1 1

It has all the conveniences of a modern house but my worker took out the bed and he sleeps on the floor. I tried it also and the floor is a lot cooler to be on compared to a bed. He said he likes to sleep on the floor,is this culture or primitive? Depends on what culture you grew up in,we each have our way of looking at things. 1 1 1
