Does Chula Hospital have an internat./private section for inpatients? I may need hospitalization. 

When searching on the internet it suggests a link but the link to international wing isn't on the search option. I use startpage to search.

I have been an inpatient four times and have only ever been on wards with Thais. I have never heard of such facility. This is a Thai hospital serving the Thai population. There are private rooms on the wards.

 

English speaking by nursing staff varies (there is no reason why a Thai nurse in a Thai hospital should speak English).

Tks. I'm not expecting nurses to speak English. Wasn't my question.

I asked about a private wing.

Nope. Chula and Siriraj are very Thai hospitals. But ...

If you know the doctor's name you can arrange an appointment (waiting upto 45 days). 

 

Success story: one sad guy had spine damage. severe. we found out the top surgeon from Chula. he waited almost 2 months for an appointment. got it. later got surgery - some "titanium thingies". 400K

Is fine now. no more tramal/ultram 

He's 53-ish now.

 

PS: Doctor speaks perfect English (for khun Thai)

 

My point: it is not a hospital that cures. It's a doctor (Mrs.Walker <<< love it!)

I have had EXCELLENT experience multiple times with Vejthani Hospital  in Bangkok (Lat Phro).

Awesome English, great patient care and VERY REASONABLE rates.  I recommend highly.

I've been an inpatient twice.  The bed options were: 1. 4-person room, 2. 2-person room.  The third option was a single suite only available for patients having family staying with them.  BTW, the 2-person room is subject to availability.

Wife has had eye surgery at Chula, and I've had a few basic procedures (check up) done at Chula.   Excellent service & pricing.   Though having a Thai speaker is an advantage, though not really needed, IF, you are a patient people person.

 

No overnight for either of us.  They do have long Qs (months) for basic services, since most popular govt hosp. in most populated city.   Can pay extra for 'off hours' services.

 

As stated above, would think any non 4 person room is reserved months in advance.

 

We did our yearly or abouts, 'health check ups" at Camillian Hosp, Thong Lo area, when living in Udon Thani.   Now I do locally at PKK govt hosp.

I spent a week in a private room on (I think) the 12th floor (it was 3-4 floors below the top of the building) about 6-7 years ago, for surgery.  Food was good, none of the nurses spoke much English.

 

However, my room was arranged through my then Thai gf, who was a nurse, and who had a close friend who was a senior nurse at the Hospital who "booked" the room for me.  It is all about contacts!!!  The head nurse on the ward told my then gf that they do not get many farangs in the ward.

 

Maybe if you asked the doctor if you could get a private room, it may help.

You can get a private room for Bt3,500 no problem and then there are the Executive rooms.

Even if food would be an extra it wld still be cheaper than Bumrungrad. Tks for replying.

Bumrungrad is the definition of what a modern hospital should not be. In every aspect. 

I guess it was a project for "upper-class" folks, who require certain luxury and extra comfort.

I have no issue with the way Bumrungrad operates. I just don't need 5* service.  My go to doc at Bum. is a top specialist with very reasonable fees. What kills it every 3 months are exorbitant lab fees which keep on going up.

how about you try to contact that doc away from Bum? They (most) have their own private practice. 

Why would you pay lab fees which are sickening high if they use the same machines as any "people hospital"?

Some even outsources to city labs.

Unfortunately, this doc doesn't work anywhere else. He is a retd. army doc who works fulltime at Bum. Had tests once done outside but results didn't come on time for my Bum. appointment.

Get the lab work done at an outside lab (like Bria) and bring in the results with you. I've fone it many times, Never been a  problem.

Hubby was in line for one but the scanner had a technical issue. He got it done for less at Samitivej Srinakarin. Contrast fluid made it pricey even at Samitivej. Was also about 15 yrs ago.

According to my observation - Samitivej is not much different from other "white collar" (middle class) hospitals incl. Bangkok Hospital (stay away), Rama 9 and others. Nice friendly place w/o "Welcome to super-duper palace". 

Also I like that hospital on Pahonyotin rd. near BigC and Saphan Kwai junction. No overpricing and no brand-name prescription.

He probably meant radioactive isotopes. Cost for use of contrast media at Chula for CT scan is Bt2,000.

Contrast media are not radioactive, nor are they "nuclear isotopes".

 

(Radioactive substances are injected for a scintigram.

They are also used for a PET scan, which is a very specialized and expensive examination)

Should note that not all CTs are the same. Aside fro mwith or without contrast there are other special, complicated CT protocols for certain specific conditions.
