Plug and Play Solar

Featured Replies

Just read an article that these kind of panels are popping up al over Germany. I have no idea how this works and can we buy them in Thailand? For me this plug and play means like you hang a panel on the wall or balcony and plug it into a socket and done. Likely this is wrong.

The most simple and also most expensive option that I know is to buy a power station like an Ecoflow and then plug in their panels. You can then plug stuff in like it was a generator

Electricity is periodically very expensive in mainland Europe and it has become popular in Germany to install "balcony solar" which typically is a micro inverter with the capacity of 800-1500W and 2-4 solar panels.

The inverter outputs 230V AC and can be plugged in directly to a wall socket, it will offset the owners electricity bill a bit at daytime during sunny days.

So wouldn't this be a good idea in Thailand to run the aircon?

As I was planning to go fully off-grid in my build I did research DC aircons, I didn’t see hybrids available in Thailand at the time. My conclusion was it was better to pool my solar PV and use it where it was needed, otherwise you could have panels paired with an aircon in a guest bedroom that was rarely used.

AC aircons in Thailand are cheap and you can buy them anywhere. DC aircons were very expensive and it just need one gecko!

You might start out with a simple one panel plug and play micro inverter setup…

Here is a link to an example… With this and a solar panel that can be sourced at Global House or many local hardware stores you can get an idea of how it works… A single micro inverter and panel and some mounting hardware would cost less than 10,000 baht to start… I would plan for a system that you could scale up to 4-5 duplicate system (Larger systems would require a dedicated electrical connection to your house wiring)…
