Yes and No; At Park road intersection are nasty cops looking for "Tea Money"....

Locals gave cops "credit" to cause closure of fake Italian Village near park road intersection.

We, me and gf,  were asked donation two times. First time I offered my Credit Card (non active, is locked up). The cop didn't like that... nor did my Thai gf.

Sure enough there were a bigger group waiting over the hill and the price to continue was 600THB. My gf hid rest of her cash in time...

She told me we, or me, was very close to be arrested and jailed.

?? What road are you writing about?

304 is now a four lane divided highway all the way down.

Quite busy at times with heavy trucks and all the rest.

Speed limit 100 at large stretches.

I am usually going through without a stop from Korat down to Kabin Buri.

This is NOT a road that officially enters a national park, no turnpikes.

As far as I know there is an entrance fee for the national park, different story, highway 2090, turn in from higway 2 (Mithrapap).

The only money makers on 304 are potential traffic checkpoints where you are fined by the rules.

Last time waved through traffic checkpoint some kms after Korat airbase and that was it.

Thanks!

Cops were at 304 @ 3052 intersection. 3052 goes to the N'al Park's North Entry.

If you didn't noticed going over the turnpike you were not in condition to drive...

Official guide:

"BANGKOK – KHAO YAI Route 2 : From Bangkok, take Highway No. 304 past Min Buri, Chachoengsao, Phanom Sarakham, Kabin Buri, Wang Nam Khiao, Pak Thong Chai, to Nakhon Ratchasima. The total distance is 273 kilometres."

Hey GypsyT, I think you are getting confused with Google instructions. Most people from the NE as KhunBENQ mentioned, use the 304 all the way to Korat. It passes to the East of Khao Yai National Park, since no turnpikes. Great road and used many times. 4 lanes all the way.

My only "confusion" may be I don't know what "Turnpike" is....

I thought it's "over the hill top road" but now, after googleing I find out it's something else, like "Toll road" etc. 304 doesn't have that.

"A turnpike is a busy road that charges users a fee to drive on it. If you drive through a toll booth, you know you're on a turnpike."

I took 304 to Khon Kaen many times but after "Tea money" deal w cops switched to #1 & 2.
