Desktop icons keep rearranging in Windows 10 when the PC is shut down sometimes.

Featured Replies

Hi Gents,

I have searched for a fix for this as many seem to have this problem,  it's a bug that Microsoft haven't fixed or don't know how to fix.

When I fire up the PC sometimes,  all my desktop icons have been rearranged back over to the left side of the screen.  I don't have the 'arrange icons checked' as an obvious answer.

Has anyone else had this happen .....   ?

cheers.

I found this  ....

Right click desktop, Personalize, Themes, Desktop icon settings and uncheck Allow themes to change desktop icons.

so I've just uncheck Allow Themes to change desktop icons ...

Let's see if that solves it ...

also,  make sure you uncheck ' Align icons to grid '   and  ' Auto align icons '

just right click anywhere on the desktop ....  then go on view ....   then you will see these two.

When I unchecked both all icons went to the left side, neatly in order.

Is there a way to get them to the right right side? I like that more.

If not I do it one by one and hope they stay there.

Interesting how Silicon Valley nerds think 😉 No logic. I miss Win 98SE - was the best.

hmm ....  mine didn't move .. they just stay where I put them.   I think you may have to move them where you want them and then re-start the PC and it should save them at the new present location.

I must have this ON. Otherwise can't arrange the way I like them.

If I move to Right they jump back to left and gaps between icons are random...

yes,   I just looked at that check again on mine and it's re-appeared as checked ...  so you are right,  I guess that has to be on.   But so far mine have stayed where I put them ( all over the place )  haha
