The Phothong 191 radio centre in Sisaket Province received a report of a serious car collision on Highway 226 between Sisaket and Uthumphon Phisai on the evening of October 11. The accident occurred near the 13-14 km marker between Ban Ta Khet and Nong Lung villages. A car had veered off the road after swerving to avoid a pickup truck that had suddenly cut in front of it, crashing into ongoing construction works on the road median. Local authorities and emergency services were dispatched to the scene.

At the time of the accident, the road was under construction, reducing the four-lane highway to just one lane in each direction. Although workers were in the process of installing street lights, visibility was still limited. The white Toyota involved in the crash had been carrying four passengers, with two sustaining serious injuries, a 1 year 5 month old boy and his mother who had both been thrown from the vehicle on impact.

The driver, later identified as Police Captain Duangdao Kamsri from Nong Bua Lamphu Police Station, was returning home to Sisaket for a weekend break. While emergency responders arrived at the scene, Captain Duangdao was seen cradling his injured infant son, tears streaming down his face. He repeatedly called out his son’s name, “Khun, Khun, don’t fall asleep, talk to Daddy,” as he attempted to stop the bleeding from his son’s head wound using tissue paper. His grief and desperation were palpable as he anxiously awaited medical help.

Medical personnel from the nearby Taet Subdistrict Health Promotion Hospital and Uthumphon Phisai Hospital arrived shortly after. They provided first aid and rushed the injured mother and child to Uthumphon Phisai Hospital for further treatment. Fortunately, both are now in stable condition but will require an extended recovery period.

Initial investigations revealed that the car had been traveling from Sisaket city when a pickup truck overtook it and abruptly cut in front, causing the driver to swerve. The driver lost control, spun, and collided with the median’s construction site before coming to rest on the opposite side of the road.

Authorities believe poor lighting at the construction zone may have contributed to the accident, and both drivers involved will be interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. Legal actions will follow accordingly.

As it is a horrible accident, I can not for my life understand why they are trying to make it more important just because a police officer was involved.

however, I agree with @billd766 post above.

Everybody buckles up as soon as they enter my vehicle.

This is the same as a motorbike rider not wearing a helmet.

1 seatbelt would have almost certainly saved both of their lives.
