Authorities in Yala province are assessing the damage after heavy rains triggered flash floods in Betong and Than To districts, particularly affecting Ayeryarwaddy Subdistrict. Two houses were washed away, claiming the life of a 66-year-old man, while three other residents survived by clinging to a tree.

On the evening of October 11, continuous heavy rainfall caused severe flooding and landslides in Ayeryarwaddy Subdistrict. The flash floods swept away homes along the riverbank, leading to the disappearance of a 66-year-old man, who was later found dead near his home. Landslides also occurred at the base of a hill, causing road collapses and knocking down power poles.

Village head Ahmad Yama of Ayeryarwaddy’s Village 4 reported that at 20:00 he and other villagers inspected the water levels in the Tamarind River area. They discovered landslides blocking roads and two houses washed away by the torrents. Three villagers clung to trees and survived, but one, identified as Korder Luebachi, was swept away. His body was found later, while six other family members managed to escape and are now staying with relatives.

In Maewat Subdistrict, Than To District, police and local officials assisted residents after flash floods struck the area, affecting households. Water levels have since receded, and cleanup efforts are underway.

The Meteorological Department has warned that southern Thailand will continue to experience heavy rain, particularly on the Gulf Coast, with the risk of flash floods, landslides, and strong winds in stormy areas.
