Patching workarounds for installation is not related to blocking security updates. They will not block security updates.

 

The issue is not with i7. It's the age of your i7 processor. 3rd Gen. 12 years old. You can still install Windows 11 on it. It's just upgrading later that concerns people. As of right now, you can install and run it.

I know this, but it's an install on hardware that is not compatible. 

 

As I said, people are working around it, and Microsoft are working around the people who are working around it.  

 

I know I can install Windows 11 on my device, however, if they patch out what I have done, along with millions of others, and block updates, I may have been better staying with Windows 10 and paying for third party updates until I upgrade to Core i9 device.

No. That's not how it works. If you have 24H2, then you'll have until the end of it's support, but you might not be able to install 25H2. But 24H2 will work normally and receive all security updates. Don't panic.

We are now in 2025 and the Windows 10 OS will reach its End of Life this year. 

 

Some geeks had found some work arounds to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware, but last I heard Microsoft were patching those work arounds so they would not work anymore.  

 

There were mixed posts on this thread, and others, as to whether the work arounds were still working, and Windows 11 on unsupported hardware was still receiving updates. 

 

Does anyone have a recent experience of upgrading to Windows 11 on unsupported hardware?  If so, which method did you use, and do you get the monthly cumulative updates?

It's already been covered. Peruse the thread, rather than expecting anyone to post the same things that are already contained within the thread. Install 24H2 and you'll be covered until October 2026 and/or pay for an extra year of support of Windows 10 covering you until October 2026.

I know it's been covered, but that was pre Microsoft patching.  There hasn't been too much recent information since then. 

 

I bumped the thread from early November.  2 months ago. 

 

I have read the work arounds still work, but you don't get updates, so not much point upgrading.  I have read the work arounds work, completely.  I have also read the work arounds no longer work.  I have also read some of the work around work, while others have stopped working. 

 

I don't need spoon feeding.  I bumped the thread to request any members that have upgraded in the last few weeks, but prior to the December cumulative update, to post of their experience.

Yes, on a home-built i5 which has gone from W8, XP, W10, and now W11 Pro. Installed using Rufus on a USB stick when it first came out. Updates perfectly whenever needed.

Installed Win 11 Pro yesterday using the Rufus engineered stick and updates working perfectly today!

This is why I asked about people upgrading late November early December, and receiving the December cumulative updates.  Did they work?

 

Like I said, I wonder if Microsoft can patch / block these upgrades at a later date.  I also did read that in order to get the latest feature updates it would require a whole new Rufus install, which is not a problem, just a PITA. 

 

I could upgrade tomorrow, but if they are going to play games in October, or earlier, I'll save my time and stay with Windows 10.

24H2 Pro will take you up to 13.10.26

24H2 Enterprise or Education will take you up to 12.10.27

 

25H2 won't be released until October. No need to concern yourself about it, You have at least until October 2026. You'll know if there are workarounds a whole year beforehand. Stop worrying.

Ahhhh, I agree, but you installed Windows 11 yesterday, so the latest ISO had all the updates included in the download. 

 

I know when you started the machine up today it checked for Windows Updates, but since you were up to date, there were none for you to download and install. 

 

This is why I am looking for a member who upgraded late November to early December on unsupported hardware AND got the December cumulative update.  I would like to know if it worked. 

 

I could wait a couple of weeks until the January cumulative update for members to post, but just thought someone out there may have upgraded about a month ago and can report on the December update.

There was a bug, totally unrelated to unsupported devices, that occurred if you installed October or November Updates via media. It would lock up security updates. Not a problem if you install the updates over the air or install the latest version of 24H2 from the 10th of December.

Basically, if I upgraded my PC 30 mins ago, and then manually searched for updates, it's going to say you are up to date.  That doesn't mean downloading and installing updates has been performed on unsupported hardware, does it?

Maybe for now, but as Microsoft keep "patching" perhaps Windows 11 won't care if it is a pirate version, but will know it's on unsupported hardware, so no more updates.

I bump a thread asking has anyone upgraded to Windows 11 recently, but more specifically late November / early December, and if so, did they sill get the 12-2025 Cumulative Update?   Simple question really.

 

It was then followed by trolling because it's too unbearable to think Microsoft will discover and patch out the work arounds, retrospectively, which they have already done for some methods.  How long before they get around to the Rufus method?  I was just wondering if they were already there.
