One Of The Most Annoying In Ms Vista

Disable or Enabel UAC in Windows Vista.

Most of the Vista users know that UAC is a part of the security system within Vista. Running UAC can be annoying special if you install or uininstall alot software. Every time this nagging popup window will show up.

I was frustrated and was looking for to permanently disable the UAC. Ok I know that the system is less secure if I do so and tested for several week on an stand alone computer. I even was switching the firewall of windows off but run Avast AV. So far not any problems.

For those of you who don't like that UAC here is the way how to disable but to enable back if you like. You need to run the following commands from command line while I've run it from Command Prompt instead of Run;

Disable UAC:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Enable UAC:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

After disable or enable UAC you'll need to reboot your computer.

Or just go to the security panel and turn it off with one click :o

I've done that to first but it isn't permanently! And that's what I want: permanet disabled!

It's worked permanently for me. Maybe you're doing something wrong?

The registry method of turning it off is like disassembling your car's engine to change the oil.

No I don't think so! Everytime after an Update from MS the UAC was enabled again! But the command line command works permanent!

I run Vista Ultimate and it stays permanently off when turn it off the normal way and it does get updates without switching back. Reimar you seem to be a tweaker so maybe something else you are installing is causing it to revert. And turning off UAC does not make Vista less secure. As far as I can see UAC is like training wheels on a bicycle. It trys to protect people who don't know what they are doing by putting a lot of guidance dialogs up rather than just doing what the user asks.

run msconfig, go to tools, disable UAC, launch, OK.

Same thing paveet, after updates the UAC is enabled again! And I using genuine Vista Ultimate!

But anyway, may see my thread just as an other way to turn off UAC if nothing else works!

Another way to get rid of it permanently is using gpedit.msc, which is anyway the way to change policy settings. I have not turned UAC off by the way, I don't see the dreaded dialog that often, maybe a few times in a full week.

As I'm checking alot software right now for uploading it's realy annoying! And to use the command line command's it's work! Funny that according to some answers others do not have the problem that it was turning on again after updating! But as I'm quite familar with the registry I use the coammnd to disable!

Disabling UAC in the normal security settings worked for me, too. Didn't come back with updates. Stayed off as it had been told to.

Disabling UAC is one of the best features in Vista! :o

ps: This was on genuine Vista Ultimate too.
