Ratchaburi Crackdown: Police Bust Illicit Cockfighting Ring

In a decisive police operation, authorities in Ratchaburi have dismantled an illicit cockfighting ring nestled in a secluded forested area, resulting in the apprehension of 25 gamblers. This action came on the heels of mounting complaints by residents of Moo 7, Ang Thong subdistrict, who were troubled by the secretive gambling activities burgeoning in their vicinity.

Mueang Ratchaburi's district chief, Sutthiphong Phutthachantra, directed a collaboration between local police and special operations teams upon receiving local reports. Their investigation led them to uncover the hidden cockfighting arena. During the raid, an active cockfight was disrupted, leading to the arrest of 25 individuals, though some managed a narrow escape.

Seized during the bust were two fighting roosters, accompanying rooster cages, a cockfighting ring setup, a digital timer, and abandoned vehicles from those who fled. The detainees, mostly from the local area with a few hailing from adjoining districts, disclosed that the ring’s organiser held regular gambling events there, typically from noon to early afternoon.

The arrested individuals are now facing charges of organising illegal cockfighting gambling, unauthorised gambling for assets, and engaging in illegal cockfighting. The location was strategically chosen for its seclusion from the public eye, a police participant noted.

All evidence is being held at Ratchaburi police station for further legal action, and summonses have been issued for those who evaded capture. Residents hope this crackdown will restore tranquility to their community.
