A fire broke out at a furniture factory in Kokka Bue Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Sakhon on the morning of October 18, engulfing the entire production building. The fire caused extensive damage, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Lieutenant Praphan Thueksakul, the District Chief of Samut Sakhon, along with local disaster prevention officials, responded quickly to the scene. Firefighters from various municipalities, including Kokka Bue, Khaerai, Phanthainorasingh, Krathum Baen, and Tha Sai, dispatched 10 fire trucks to contain the blaze.

The fire started in a production building spanning more than two rai (about 3,200 square meters) inside the factory. The building was filled with wooden furniture, flammable and combustible materials, making it vulnerable to rapid combustion. Firefighters worked to remove cans of paint and glue used in the furniture-making process from the building while simultaneously spraying water and breaking through walls to reach the fire’s core.

After about two hours, the fire was brought under control. However, the building’s steel roof structure was severely damaged, buckling under the intense heat. The upper wall, designed as an air vent, also collapsed, but no responders was injured in the incident.

Initial reports suggest that no workers were inside the building when the fire broke out, as it occurred before the start of working hours and all the doors were locked. The cause of the fire remains unknown, as investigators have yet to assess the scene, as the structure is unsafe. The building housed machinery, flammable materials, and large quantities of wooden furniture, but the full extent of the damage has yet to be evaluated.

Samut Sakhon’s disaster prevention department has declared the building a restricted area due to safety concerns. They have coordinated with local engineers to inspect the structure’s integrity and ensure no further risk to public safety.
