The incident unfolded on the morning of October 22, in the Mittraphap sub-district of Kaedam district, Maha Sarakham, when an armed police officer went on a shooting spree, targeting a vegetable vendor. The incident, which began around 06:30, left the vendor injured while sat on his motorcycle with sidecar.

Authorities from Kaedam Police Station, led by Police Colonel Chaiwat Chaiphote, arrived at the scene along with an investigation team and local district officials. Reinforcements from the Special Operations Unit of Maha Sarakham Provincial Police were also called in to contain the situation.

The shooter, identified as Police Sergeant Major Somporn, was seen pacing around the area, armed and wearing a yellow shirt and shorts. Officers took cover behind their police vehicles, which had been used to block the road in the village to prevent further danger. Gunshots could be heard intermittently throughout the standoff.

After two tense hours, at approximately 08:30, the Special Operations Unit advanced to a closer position, forcing Sergeant Major Somporn to flee towards his residence. Negotiators quickly moved in, engaging him in a conversation that eventually persuaded him to lay down his weapon and surrender peacefully.

At the scene, officers recovered bullet casings scattered along the road. The injured vegetable vendor was rushed to the hospital, where authorities are monitoring his condition. Sergeant Major Somporn was taken into custody and is now being held at Kaedam Police Station while forensic experts prepare to investigate the crime scene further.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and police are conducting a full investigation.

Another crazy police officer just gives you great confidence in the RTP recruits

Got to be a tough job, seeing family violence, bashed children, scraping dead people off roads etc etc.

Gruesome and morbid, similar to a war zone, everyday for years on

end.

Surprises me more of them don’t loop out.

This chills me to the marrow said the officer in the cowboy hat 🤔

Remove him from the force, jail him a couple of years, and cancel his pension.

Get really really tough on him and put him in an inactive post for a fortnights break..............:coffee1:

Cops the world over experience some horrific things as do firefighters, but it's their job, and they have to cope with it or seek in house counseling, not go around shooting people. I hope they drug tested him.
