In her first appearance on the campaign trail alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, former First Lady Michelle Obama delivered a powerful speech urging Americans to vote against the “dangers” posed by Donald Trump. Addressing an enthusiastic crowd in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Obama emphasized the critical stakes of the election. She said that without a victory for Kamala Harris, the country could face severe consequences, particularly regarding abortion rights. She spoke to a crowd of thousands, describing her fears of what she called Trump’s “erratic behavior” and his “obvious mental decline.”

 

The former First Lady’s concerns echoed the growing alarm among abortion rights advocates. These groups have argued that bans on abortion access threaten women’s health by denying them potentially life-saving medical treatments. “I’m deeply concerned that so many people are buying into the lies of people who don’t have our best interests at heart,” Obama stated, adding that “ugliness will touch all of our lives.”

 

Harris echoed these sentiments, speaking directly to younger voters from Generation Z, acknowledging their impatience for change. “I want to tell you that I see you, and I see your power,” Harris said, signaling her alignment with their concerns.

At another Michigan event, former President Donald Trump rallied with his supporters, pledging to revitalize the state’s automotive industry and emphasizing his familiar talking points on immigration, energy, and economic reform. Michigan, which holds 15 electoral college votes, has been hotly contested. Polls show Trump and Harris in a tight race, with Harris maintaining only a narrow lead as the November 5 election date approaches.

Trump’s rally in Novi, Michigan, included a notable appearance by several Arab-American and Muslim community leaders, including Dearborn Mayor Bill Bazzi. Bazzi explained his support for Trump, citing the former president’s promise to end conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine. “The bloodshed has to stop all over the world, and I think this man can make it happen,” he said, expressing his hope that Trump’s leadership could promote peace.

 

Trump has made a direct appeal to Arab-American voters, whom he believes could sway the election in Michigan. The state is home to the “Uncommitted” movement, a group of voters who are critical of Trump but have withheld endorsement for Harris, citing dissatisfaction with her stance on Israel and Gaza. For these voters, a lack of firm policy commitment to a weapons ban in Gaza remains a sticking point.

 

In contrast, many Democratic voters at the Kalamazoo rally appeared more focused on domestic issues, particularly the protection of abortion rights and their perception of Trump as a threat to democratic values. Kelly Landon, a Canton, Michigan resident, expressed that her main motivation in the election was to safeguard the rights of women to make their own choices and ensure the safety of her female family members. “For me, the health and safety of women and their right to live the way they want to live outweighs other issues,” Landon said, underscoring the priority she places on women’s rights.

 

The close contest in Michigan reflects a broader national divide. While Harris holds a slim lead nationwide according to polling averages, Trump is leading in five out of seven key battleground states that could decide the election. With just days left until November 5, Michigan’s outcome remains uncertain, its voters split between concerns over foreign policy, economic promises, and deeply personal issues like reproductive rights.

Wrong. This issue is a federal concern as we saw by Trump and McConnell alignment of the Supreme Court makeup. Do I have American Rights or are any rights to be determined by the state in which I am resident or in which I travel? it was the states that allowed such things as the Jim Crow Laws, and the Literacy Tests to vote. In the state in which I resided, although federally ruled illegal, my first house purchase in the late 1960s stated that I agreed not to sell my house to a negro (Kentucky). Bit of a culture shock coming from the multiethnic East Coast to see the separate drinking fountains, rest room designation as a remnant of the not so distant past when states determined "rights" for Americans residing in or traveling through those states.

I think Harris will win.

 

Elon Musk wants Trump to win, so he will put tariffs on Chinese EV's and save Tesla's share price.

 

Very dangerous talk about putting tariffs on China by Trump! Scott Morrison did this in Australia, China stopped talking to us, put huge tariffs on Australian wine and Lobsters going to China...in other words, China won the tariff war and Australia lost.

 

I think Trump will lose.

 

If Trump loses  - Crypto will tank on Friday November 8th.

I find it completely bizarre that it's even a "thing". Apparently it's only a "thing" in America. For some strange reason, killing foetuses is so important to American women that a presidential election could be decided because of it.

Happily I live in a country where it wasn't even mentioned in the last election. Perhaps women here are aware of contraception, and they are not in the US.

The women in your country have access to abortion without the government looking over their shoulder.Women im America are angry that a right has been stolen and the retrumplicans have made women’s healthcare so perilous leagley that doctors are afraid to provide care.it’s costing lives.

There was that rumor that she's trans, but I think it's false. After this speech, Barack will definitely be voting Trump.
