Pattaya City Hall witnessed an unusual protest today, as vendors from the Thepprasit area market petitioned the mayor, citing unfair treatment by the market owner. The vendors are burdened by a stringent new rule demanding a daily attendance or facing a substantial 1,000 baht penalty for each missed day. Traditionally operating three days a week, the market's schedule has been expanded to seven days, but without corresponding adjustment in rental fees.

This abrupt shift has compounded their challenges, particularly as luxury item sellers, who usually depend on specific days with higher customer flows. Their frustration has grown due to failed communication with the intransigent market owner. The vendors approached Deputy Mayors Wuttisak Ruemkijjagarn and Kritsana Boonsawat in hopes of intervention.

Pattaya City's task force, specifically the legal department dedicated to consumer protection, is now occupied addressing the situation. The vendors have detailed their demands: adjust fines equitably, re-evaluate rental fees in line with extra operating days, and provide a more sustainable timeframe if daily operation is non-negotiable.

As negotiations stalemate with market management, the vendors see Pattaya City as a potential peacemaker. They hope the city's involvement will lead to a fair compromise, reinforcing equitable market practices. The outcome remains pivotal in setting a precedent for vendor treatment and operational fairness within the city's commercial spaces.

If the owner doesn’t give at all then they should all move shop down the road a bit. It was great when it was only 3 days a week. Now being 7 days it’s nothing special. Hopefully they will work it out.
