Giant Pandas Set to Enhance Relations Between Thailand and China

As Thailand celebrates the 50th anniversary of its diplomatic relations with China next year, preparations are underway for the arrival of two giant pandas from China. This move, intended as a gesture of goodwill and cultural exchange, follows a meeting between key Thai agencies, including the Zoological Park Organisation and Chiang Mai Zoo officials, on 29th October to sort out logistics.

 

Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment, confirmed China's agreement to grant the pandas on loan, although exact dates remain undisclosed. This isn't Thailand's first panda endeavour; the Chiang Mai Zoo was home to other pandas, Xuang Xuang and Lin Hui, from 2003 until their passing, solidifying the zoo's status as a cherished venue for these majestic creatures.

 

The initiative not only aims to foster closer ties between the two nations, but it also promises to reignite local enthusiasm, reminiscent of the previous pandas’ popularity. The ongoing exchange symbolises a steady relationship, highlighted by cultural affinity and mutual respect.

 

Adding a related note to this panda narrative, Hong Kong is similarly gearing up for the arrival of two pandas later this month, further demonstrating China's use of these gentle giants in diplomatic gestures worldwide.

Air quality probably not all that good for pandas or anybody else up there for a good chunk of the year.

Wasn't this around the time that the Chief Water Pusher, Plodprasop, was publicly proposing an "exotic" meat buffet at Chiang Mai Zoo ?
