A 63-year-old man, left without electricity for two months due to unpaid bills, lost his home to a fire ignited by a candle left burning while he went to work in his fields. Returning home, he found everything he owned had been destroyed, with only the clothes on his back remaining.

The incident occurred on October 30 at house number 32, Village 9, in Ban Khok, Bua Kho sub-district, Mueang district, Maha Sarakham Province. Upon receiving the emergency report, Police Lieutenant Manoch Manonthee, an investigator from Don Wan Police Station, coordinated with local fire units from Kok Kor and Bua Kho sub-districts, along with rescue teams, to respond to the scene.

When fire crews arrived, they encountered intense flames consuming the residence. After battling the blaze for approximately 45 minutes, firefighters managed to bring it under control. Neighbours informed officials that the house belonged to Mr. Sanit Harnkhampa, 63. At the time of the fire, Mr. Sanit was out working in his rice fields, leaving the house unattended. A passing neighbour, returning from the fields, saw flames rising to the second floor and immediately called the police.

According to Mr. Sanit, he had fallen behind on his electricity payments, accumulating a debt of 400 baht. The local utility company had subsequently disconnected his service two months prior. To light his home, he had relied on candles. That day, he placed a lit candle near a house pillar before leaving for the fields, intending to return soon after and prepare a meal. Tragically, the candle somehow fell, sparking a fire that spread rapidly through the home.

When he returned to the village, the elderly man was met with the devastating sight of his home engulfed in flames. Everything he owned, aside from the clothes he wore, was lost in the fire. “I have nothing left, only this one outfit,” he lamented.

He should sue the government for the measly pension they get, can't even pay the electric bill, and you call this an advanced country, it isn't . It still is a banana republic.

Agreed.

These are the real citizens of Thailand that deserve the 10,000 baht.

Poor chap is so far under the radar that he probably did not even know about the vote buying handout.

Someone in Thailand should start a Go Fund Me.  It should help.
