Construction Dust Panel Falls from Sixth Floor, Injures 6 Workers : 4 in Critical Condition

An incident at a Bangkok condominium construction site injured six workers, with four in critical condition, after a dust-protection panel fell from the sixth floor. The incident, attributed to possible miscommunication among work teams, led to a temporary suspension of all construction activities.

 

The accident took place around 18:30  on November 6, with Pol. Lt. Col. Sombat Sangmanee of Samsen Police Station responding to reports of multiple injuries at the construction site located on Samsen Soi 24, near Nakhon Chai Si Road in the Dusit District. Police officials, along with medical teams from Vajira Hospital and emergency rescue crews, promptly arrived to provide assistance.

 

At the scene, the fallen dust-protection panel structure had injured six construction workers, including one worker who was severely injured when a steel rebar impaled his chest. Rescue workers used equipment to carefully cut the metal and free him, a process that took over 40 minutes. He was then quickly transported to a nearby hospital for emergency care.

 

The five other workers included three who sustained serious injuries and two with minor injuries. They were promptly taken to local hospitals for treatment. Media access to the site was restricted, with authorities allowing only external observation of the area.

 

Mr. Tussanai, a representative of the construction project, clarified that the accident was not due to a crane or scaffolding collapse, as first believed. Instead, a dust-protection panel from the sixth floor, approximately 18 metres high, detached and fell in three sections. The project is overseen by an experienced contractor, but today’s team was new, beginning their shift at 10:00. This recent personnel change may have led to communication issues, contributing to the incident.

 

Following the incident , the construction company halted operations to allow for a full investigation by relevant authorities, including the Dusit District Office, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and the Samsen Police. The company also confirmed that it would cover initial medical expenses for the injured workers, who have all received care at nearby hospitals.
