Perplexing Theft: Woman Steals Coffin Cart, Claims It’s Perfect for Drying Clothes

In a bizarre incident, a woman was apprehended after allegedly stealing a funeral coffin cart from Boon Kanchararam Temple (Wat Nong Phang Khae) in Bang Lamung, Chonburi, claiming she “borrowed” it to use for drying her clothes.

 

The incident occurred on the night of November 9, when the woman, described as mentally unstable, reportedly sneaked into the temple premises and took the coffin cart from in front of the crematorium. She also took a smaller handcart belonging to local residents near the temple. 

 

Witnesses reported seeing her pushing the carts out through the temple gate and onto Sukhumvit Road, heading toward South Pattaya. Municipal officers from Jomtien, conducting a routine patrol, spotted the woman pushing the cart and stopped her for questioning.

 

When asked why she took the coffin cart, the woman insisted she had not stolen it but had “borrowed” it from the temple. When officers asked whom she had borrowed it from, she confidently replied that she had “borrowed it in her heart” and intended to use it as a drying rack for laundry. The officers escorted her and the cart back to the temple, where the temple caretakers confirmed the theft.

 

Aunt Su, a 64-year-old temple caretaker, described the woman as mentally unstable and often seen around the temple, sometimes asking people for money. In the past, she had even attempted to take offerings meant for monks. Aunt Su noted that the woman likely acted impulsively due to her mental state, and thus neither the temple nor the local residents who owned the handcart wished to press charges.

 

Authorities took the woman in to record a formal record of the incident and escorted her out of the area. The temple’s funeral cart was returned to its usual place. Fortunately, no funeral services were scheduled, as the cart is the only one available at the temple.

As stated, mentally unstable.....

I lived in a village once with an outdoor kitchen area, typical 60 TW wrapped around a detached 2 bed little house. Small things kept going missing... and one day a visitor said go down to such and such lady's house and see if she has any of your things. This kleptomaniac must have wandered the streets at night and her home was a veritable Aladdin's cave, or looked like the BL Commerce place behind BigC Marina Mall.

It just has a different meaning, more akin to 'can I have', 'will you give me' etc!

There's a mentally ill Thai guy who pushes an old motorbike covered in crap around the Dongtan Beach area. The bike has a sign that says "For Sale, 1,000,000 baht".  He doesn't seem to bother anyone and there's nothing on the bike that anyone would miss.  He even chains the bike up so it can't be stolen.
