Latest developments and discussion of recent events in the Ukraine War
Russia fires intercontinental ballistic missile in attack on Ukraine, Kyiv says KYIV, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile during an attack on Ukraine on Thursday, Kyiv's air force said, in the first known use in the war of such a powerful, nuclear-capable weapon with a range of thousands of kilometres. The air force reported the launch after Ukraine fired U.S. and British missiles at targets inside Russia this week, despite warnings by Moscow that it would see such action as a major escalation in the 33-month-old war. https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russia-launches-intercontinental-ballistic-missile-attack-ukraine-kyiv-says-2024-11-21/ -

Lost for words: Sisaket cops solve drunk mute man mystery
A local police station in Sisaket province faced an unusual challenge when an inebriated and lost mute man was brought in. Struggling to communicate, officers eventually relied on pen and paper to identify and safely return him to his family. Officers from Phon Khwao Police Station received a report yesterday, November 20, of a disoriented man located within Ban Non I Pang Temple in Nong Kaew, Mueang district, Sisaket province. The man, unable to speak and visibly intoxicated, was brought to the station for assistance. Without any identification, the only items he carried were a small bottle of 40-degree white liquor and an arm tattoo which read “Lumyai Haitongkam.” The man’s attempt to communicate revealed he had been assaulted, resulting in a broken front tooth. He tried to indicate his whereabouts on a map but due to communication barriers, the process took over an hour. Police Officer Prasert Khamsaenmuen, involved in the case, expressed his frustration over the incident. “We received a notification from the village headman about a lost person. Upon arrival, we found communication was impossible, so we brought him to the station, hoping to contact his family.” The situation escalated as officers struggled to understand the man’s needs. Eventually, they provided him with paper and a pen, leading to a breakthrough. The man wrote down his name as Natthawut Plengsuk. With this information, officers searched the civil registry and found his address in Chan, Kanthararom district, Sisaket province. Further contact with his relatives revealed that Natthawut, a mute individual, had left home two days ago to harvest rice and hadn’t returned since. Once identified, Deputy Inspector Prakob Sawang Sotha from Phon Khwao Police Station took immediate action to reunite Natthawut with his family. Upon reaching home, an emotional Natthawut embraced the officers, grateful for their efforts in bringing him back safely, reported KhaoSod. Holistic way to quit smoking
I actually tried a mix of holistic methods when I was quitting smoking, and one thing that helped me was using crystals for focus and calmness. I didn’t rely solely on them, but it gave me something to center myself with during cravings. I also found that using a vaporizer with fryd Extracts was really helpful. They have a great variety of strains, and I could switch between different ones depending on what I needed—something relaxing when the stress hit, or more energizing when I felt like I needed a mood boost. It was nice having a tool that wasn’t just about quitting but helped me feel a little better along the way. -

Day-to-day life in Myanmar
Sad for the Burmese people. I was in Yangon last year and saw no tourists. The Burmese people are struggling financially and for freedom. Of course, in conflict areas it's even worse. Now I see a number of travel YouTubers going to Myanmar and making clickbait headings such as "travelling Myanmar in 2024 is tough", "Journey into Myanmar's conflict zone" and "Entering Asia's most dangerous country". Not sure what to make of it having travelled the country extensively in the past. -

Called at the Chonburi Taxation office
Not really a Catch 22 , just standard banking KYC. There are multiple ways to approach this. Let me give you 3: You can get a TIN ( agents start at 3000 THB for the service or you can try yourself) , and then provide it to your UK offshore Bank. That doesn't mean you need to pay any tax in Thailand, nor that you are liable for any tax. You can give your UK offshore bank any 13 digit number as your TIN. They will not do any validation on it. I'm not recommending this, but I do believe it would be possible, and IMO would be no further questions asked. Some foreign banks will also accept 'Am tax resident but do not yet have a Tax number'. Yours may not, but many do.
