Hello Everyone,

What do I need to file for the non o family visa for a spouse to e file it? Do I need to already have my plane ticket bought before I apply for the visa electronically?

Thank you

You seem to be asking about eVisa non O (Thai wife)

Why apply for  visa without flight to Thailand.

Passport country?

Where currently located?

If you already have Thai bank account in your name only you could consider visa exempt entry and obtain non O marriage at local immigration.

Yes I'm referring to the Thai wife non o visa. I'm from the United States.

I'm worried about the Visa being denied and would waste money on a plane ticket. If I need one before I apply I will get the plane ticket before applying. How soon before I intend to arrive in Thailand should I apply for the e-visa?

Even if that occurred then fly visa exempt and obtain the non O at immigration.

Are you planning on ongoing stay I'm Thailand?

Meaning  12 month extension

I don't have a Thai bank account yet.

Yes I'm planning on staying in Thailand for the 12 month extension. I'm moving there to be with my wife.

Assuming you are intending to apply in the US the requirements are very clear on the Embassy website.  No travel tickets are mentioned.  Note that it is always possible they might ask for it later during the application, they did for me in the UK, but I did have a ticket (why would you apply for the visa if not intending to travel?)

Required documents to upload in the system (Large and clear JPEG or PDF format) to stay with Thai family residing in Thailand (more than 60 days):

  1. Passport Biodata Page or Travel Document (Must be valid within 6 months from travel date)
  2. Photograph of the applicant, taken within the past six months
  3. Document indicating current location (driving license, bank statement, or proof of stay)
  4. Recent bank statement showing the applicant's name and ending balance of no less than $15,000 or proof of monthly income of not less than $1,500/month) along with the current bank statement showing incoming income
  5. Personal details of a family in Thailand, e.g. valid Thai ID card or Thai Passport
  6. Proof of relationship to a family in Thailand (immediate family only), e.g. A copy of marriage certificate / birth certificate / certificate of adoption

In that case your plan of obtaining eVisa in the states is best plan.

With the non O you should be able to open a Thai bank account in your name only.

This is the very first thing you should attend to after arrival..

Maybe it is different for an Australia issued Non "O" e-visa

In the e-visa application I completed this week, I'm pretty sure there was a box where you had to enter your arrival flight, and also upload a copy of your ticket. I had my flight booked, but previously I always mailed my application a few weeks early to guarantee I had my passport returned in time. Work, family etc. meant I would book flights at the last moment.

With a physical application, I would attach a note to my documents to explain this, never a problem, but I didn't see anywhere this time to upload additional documents/letters.  On the e-visa I was issued, the way I read it is that I can use it to enter Thailand up to ninety days from the date of issue. I received it within twenty-four hours of applying.

With the e-visa there could be an issue if you were to leave the section blank i.e. not being able to submit an application unless every required box is completed. Maybe you can simply type, "not booked yet" and instead of uploading a ticket, upload a letter saying why you haven't booked a ticket yet. Perhaps someone here knows if they check the flight you enter is booked in your name.  People re-book flights all the time due to changed plans, so would arriving on a different flight be a major issue?

Yes the e-visa application asks for intended arrival date and also for a flight number.  But it doesn't actually ask for a copy of the ticket.  However in my case I received a follow up e-mail asking for it, which of course wasn't a problem.

applied for Non "O" in Oz last week. Typed in date of arrival and flight no, Was not asked for ticket. This was my second Non "O" E=visa  this year and not asked for ticket first time either.

I also got a non-imm O e-visa without having to upload a copy of the ticket. I had to state date of arrival and flight number but I just made those up from the Singapore Airlines website.

I was never going to buy a flight until my actual visa was approved as e-visa site said it could take 10 business days or longer to get approval. As it turned out it was approved within 72 hours

(I understand tourist e-visa do ask for ticket to be uploaded, but non-imm O doesn't)

Thank you. I don't want to buy a plane ticket ahead of time and then deal with money being wasted on a ticket is the e visa is denied for some reason.

Can I go to a bank when I arrive and show them the non o visa to open the account?

When I was there in September we stopped at a bank and asked questions and the person checked my passport for the visa stamp. When they didn't see it they said I couldn't open an account. I was the on travel visit from USA at the time.

Yes. Kasikorn most likely will open account with the Non O stamp in your passport.

Explain that you intend to obtain 12 month extension.

A TM30 along with lease would be a bonus.

Bangkok Bank wanted "certificate of residence" along with the non O.

Your application won't be rejected.

Even if it was doesn't mean loss of ticket.

Fly to Thailand enter visa exempt and obtain non O at immigration.

This plan B would require agent to open bank account. 4k

Best option is to get the non O in USA.

What is the TM30? Would a lease in my wife's name suffice?

A lease is not a TM30.  A TM30 is a legal requirement for any property owner to report the arrival of a foreigner within 24 hours.

Two weeks should be fine, I received a non-O e-visa in the UK in 3 or 4 days.  But really as soon as your intended travel plans are known you can apply, the visa will be valid for use for 3 months after the date of issue.

OP, you have correct answer above.

Two weeks is fine, however the visa once issued will have an enter date till date.

That means enter any time in that 3 month window and you will be stamped in for 90 days.

Personally I would book the flight and few (2-3weeks) prior apply for the non O visa.

Be aware that you have a fall back option.

If visa unsuccessful (won't be) you enter Thailand visa exempt.

Use agent to obtain bank account and then you obtain non O at local immigration office  with minimum 15 days remaining on exempt entry stamp.

(which office will you use?)

With visa exempt currently 60 days you have plenty of time for the process.

I will be registering at the Khon Kaen office.

I have another question for you. I was just looking at things you need to e-file. One of them says a bank statement with funds. Does that mean it wants to see in my American account that I have the 400,000 baht?

I already sent that money over to my wife's account so it is there and easier to transfer into my account that I open when I arrive. Do I need to transfer that money back to my account here in the United States for the e-file?

Thank you for your help answering my questions.

The financial requirement to apply for eVisa in the states is posted by others earlier in the thread.

The funds do not have to be in a Thai bank.

For the 12 month extension you do not need to prove funds came from abroad.

You are definitely going to need to show that money in an account in your name, either in US or Thailand.  So you've jumped the gun by sending it to your wife.  Sending it back may not be as easy so hopefully you've got some more laying around somewhere.

From the embassy website;

"

  1. A recent bank statement showing the applicant's name and an ending balance of at least $15,000, or proof of a monthly income of at least $1,500, along with the current bank statement showing incoming deposits"

If her bank gives her a hard time about transferring that money back to me then I'll just have to unfortunately buy a round trip ticket and go over there and do the process from there. The main reason why I was trying to do the e Visa is so I could get away with only buying a one-way ticket to save money.

You don't need a round trip ticket.  You only need an onward ticket.  That could be a cheap $40 hop to Cambodia.  Or you can rent a ticket.

I'm not currently in thailand. I'm currently in the united states. I was attempting to do the e visa. I made the mistake of sending the money over to my wife first because I would rather have it over there and make it easier for me to transfer into the account that I open in my name rather than trying to call my bank and do stuff over the phone. A $40 hopped Cambodia does nothing for me when I am in the United states.

I have to buy a round trip ticket now because immigration will not let me enter Thailand on a one-way ticket if I am coming with the travel exempt Visa instead of the non-ovisa. If I had been able to get the non-o visa through the e Visa then I would only buy a one-way ticket. I was hoping to do that to save money but because I screwed up I will have to buy a round trip ticket now.

No, that is not correct.  You do not need a round trip ticket.  It is an onward ticket.  Hence my suggestion of a cheap ticket to Cambodia.  You do not have to use it.  Most likely immigration wont ask anything in any event, it is normally the airline that asks to see it when checking in.

I see. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm trying to navigate all this with a traumatic brain injury. It is very confusing when I get conflicting information from everybody here and conflicting information from online sources.

I was of the understanding that immigration at the airport would look and see if I have a round trip ticket or not whether they approve my entry tourist visa.
