In a swift operation, police apprehended a 27-year-old man who snatched gold necklaces weighing four baht and attempted to flee a mall in Bangkok. The suspect was intercepted near the roadside shortly after the incident, thanks to vigilant citizens and rapid police action.

On November 18, around 15.00 officers from the Bukkhalo Police Station, including Pol. Col. Chattakit Phadungchanthanai and Pol. Lt. Col. Prasert Chana-akson, arrested Thanus “Art” Prasakha, a resident of Kalasin province. The arrest took place near Soi Somdet Phra Chao Taksin 40 in Thonburi District, Bangkok.

Police seized three gold necklaces weighing four baht in total, concealed in the left front pocket of the suspect’s black jacket. The man was charged with robbery after he confessed to snatching the items from a gold shop located at the Big C Dao Khanong branch.

The incident began when the suspect entered the gold shop pretending to shop for necklaces. After requesting the staff to display several pieces, he seized three gold necklaces and fled on foot. The store immediately alerted the police, providing a description of the suspect, who was wearing a black jacket and jeans.

Acting on the tip-off, a police team rushed to the area and spotted a man matching the description running away near the mall. Citizens who witnessed the theft were also pursuing the suspect, shouting for assistance. The officers quickly intercepted him, leading to his arrest.

During questioning, Thanus admitted to the robbery, revealing he had concealed the stolen necklaces in his jacket. He stated that he had taken advantage of an opportune moment during the shop staff’s distraction.

The gold necklaces were confiscated as evidence, and the suspect was informed of his rights and charges before being handed over to investigators for legal proceedings.

The police have since praised the cooperation of the public and the prompt response of officers, ensuring the suspect was caught before he could escape further.

Is Baht a new measurement of weight?

No... Its always been the measurement of weight for Gold and Silver in Thailand.

1 baht of gold = 15.244 grams or 0.49 troy ounces.
