Thailand ranks 9th for the risks of climate change, what are you doing to protect yourself?

Thailand is ranked ninth in the world for long-term climate risk. This ranking is based on the frequency of disasters, deaths, property losses, and economic losses over the past 20 years. https://germanwatch.org/sites/default/files/Global Climate Risk Index 2021_2.pdf

I am sure most of the replies will be along the lines of either denial that the risks exist or confidence that the poster will be long dead before the worst happens. You are welcome to your opinions but I am more interested in hearing from those who have actually given this some serious thought.

In my case I have concern for the future of my 1 year old son and my younger wife so I have built a house that is structurally very strong, built high above the surrounding land to avoid flooding at an altitude of 150m above sea level. The house is off-grid for power and has rainwater harvesting supported by solar well pumps that provide backup water to the house and the garden which has many fruit trees and vegetable beds. We have a large pond with fish pens. We also grow rice in the surrounding fields.

I like your last paragraph - well done.

Although I have no offspring, I do worry about the climate future of my young Thai friends.  I am 69 years young, and if I am very lucky I will still be here in another decade, but current health issues suggest otherwise.

I have read several articles on possible climate change in Thailand and parts of numerous reports on the same topic, and Thailand will be looking and significant severe changes in the coming decades, especially coastal provinces.  For example, a 20 metre rise in sea level will put large portions of the rail and highway networks connecting Bangkok and southern Thailand under water.

I will leave it at that.

Well done, again, on your planning; you are certainly doing more than the government.
