Tour around a Chiangmai Housing Estate

Nice, really nice.

Thank you @csmith for posting that here.

Very professional video production.

Clearly, someone is skilled at using a camera.

A little bit unclear about the objective of the video:

#1 - to advertise video services?

If so, did a good job of that.  (And I'm all for personal/business advertising like this.  Wish there was more of it on this forum, so we could find out about products and services available in this area.

#2 - show a view of an up-scale and very expensive housing development?

If so, what struck me was the houses look "picture perfect", but few people were out and about.

Except for a few long shots of two people in a swimming pool, no other residents to be seen.

Well, I'd like to see more along these lines.

Perhaps a thread: "videos of my soi, my moo-baan" from all over Thailand.

That would be fascinating.

I hate going through manned security like that. Feels too restrictive.

I always appreciate manned security like that ... housing development or industrial estate.

Says that residents care enough about their property to pay extra to protect it.

What I wonder is how long the manned security will last.

Have seen so many empty, deserted, security booths -- clearly deserted for years.

When that happens, attention to the properties inside declines also.

No security => properties on the way down.

So, I'll take manned security any day!

I used to live in gated community with manned gates and even fancy patrol vehicles with lights, etc.

It seemed Ok at first until I realized that it was all meant to make people feel safer. It had nothing to do with actual security since we were out in a semi-rural location.

A waste of money basically paid for with resident assessments. You're right though, residents may have the funds to keep the area up and looking well and care about the area.

They kept upgrading the security all the time as well, needing better patrol vehicles that were as good as police cruisers, etc.

I live in a gated community in the suburbs of Bangkok that has a card operated (and 24hr staffed) barrier at the entrance and another at each phase entrance. If anyone wants to visit the guard rides a motorcycle to the house to check. Visitors are issued a paper pass at each checkpoint which I stamp to authorise their exit.

Consequently it is very secure and we never have non-residents wandering about. I feel much safer than I ever did in England.

Brother-in-law lives in a new housing development outside of Bangkok and it has similar security,  Only difference is front gate security calls the resident to get the ok before letting visitors in.

Village triangle looked dead from the air, needs water.

I live in such a village, normally it's deserted during the day, everyone at work.

Our guards keep the kids in and the riffraff out.

The entrance has been manned 24/7 since the build, about 11 years.

But the police cruise the village 2x a day.

Currently 3 bed houses rent for 10k a month or a little less.

Please send me the address.

(Not joking. Because...IF it's quiet, and IF the electric power is stable...then....SERIOUSLY....I may need to move....even though I like my present area.  I need a place with stable power, and quiet...and safety/security.  I just don't understand how you can get a 3-bedroom that cheaply....)

Tks.

( I would not be able to leave this place for about another 6 months....)

We rent a well built (not a cheap-o eco block) two year old three bedroom house 100m for 8000฿ a month, quiet no dogs or loud fart can mufflers in the neighborhood and pleasant neighbors. There’s plenty of places that run @~1000฿ a month, you just have to patiently look.

OK.

Thank you for your feedback.

IF I know that such places actually EXIST...then....

I will continue to search.

Sometimes, I believe, it is the belief that decent places might not actually exist, which prevents us from keeping-up our search....

And we just give up, after finding something half-satisfactory.

Tks!

I now realize that I MUST move.

I called the local power company...and...

Apparently, they do not anticipate any electric-power supply improvement in my immediate area.

Therefore, IF this is really the case..then....

It's just a question of either installing some major whole-house backup system...or moving....or....just continuing to endure the totally unacceptable....for the remaining years one intends to be alive in Thailand.

Best choice...I think....is to keep searching for a place that offers a stable electrical-power supply, and quiet, too, and for a reasonable rental cost.

So do thieves... thats kind of the objective...

Theives are usually in your head. Even if you do get some riff raff it's not worth the expenditure in security in my opinion to have manned posts and a guarded compound that feels like you are entering a "facility". It's overkill.

It took well over a year to find a house we liked. Passed on some pretty nice houses, though the issues were things like dogs, noise, flood zone, area has traffic issues, well water and septic tank opposed to village supplied on and on.

The community fees include a lot of other items... Gym, Pool, Gardening etc..

Thus: in a 100 House Moobaan...  we're paying about 600 baht per month for security...

Opportunistic crime is an issue in Thailand..

Wife's Parents had a holiday home outside of Bangkok (it wasn't in a moobaan) - they had a full time maid, who just had to keep and stay there so the house was ready whenever they or we wanted to turn up - even though she was paid well she was bored and quit... Within 6 months the house was gutted.

We travel a lot - often away for a month in the summer - for 600 baht per month, thats a great deal.

We dont need to worry about the car, our motorcycle - its in outside storage - decent bicycles, golf clubs, skiis etc.

I would not live in a house in Thailand without security...

And... the manner in which you use the 'manned post' term, implies an prison or army type scenario - its not that at all...   the feeling is 'secure environment'...
